Stumbled across this unmodified and neglected Ambassador, and it got me thinking about potential. I don't think I've seen much, if anything, done to the Ambassadors and Princesses, but surely someone has done something with one at some point that's interesting. Found this on Flikr via Google, but the big version is all copyrighted and stuff so I can't hotlink it. Oh, and there was an ancient thread on RR that I found that had this in it. Is there more, or are these very much in the unloved category of modded cars?

Dad had both of these when i was a kid.Loved them and its probably where ive got the retro bug from. Ive promised myself i`ll have a prinny body onto a modern floorpan with modern running gear.Probably something like a vag diesel platform with the prinny body plonked ontop with some killer wheels.

Look at all the plastic people who live without a care.Try to sit with me around my table, but never bring a chair.

I like them. Once day I will own one. Think it might be a good thing to graft a Princess or 2200 front onto an Ambassador. Oh, and shove a V8 in it.

These were always my dads selected weapon for towing our caravan when i was a kid! At least until they all vanished. Was too young to remember them but they're a stunning looker even by todays standards IMO.

My dad had a Princess too. Maybe this is the one true constant that ties all Retro Rides users together...?
Shag-pile carpet and elephant-cord seats. Opulent.

My dad had an Ambassador. It was so awful he swore off BL cars for ever and got an Audi 80 instead! I'm on the lookout for a Princess at the moment, ideally a brown one. I missed one a couple of months ago due to moving, looked really tidy too

They were pretty awful cars when they were new. The shape now has a certain charm I think, and there must be potential for a great modded car if the original mechanicals are junked!

Sandglow yellow, with a brown vinyl roof and brown velour interior Always smelt a bit of sick though; hydrolastic suspension & children prone to travel sickness are not a good combination

Built this 25 years ago triple webbered 6 cylinder engine triumph stag exhaust. straight six sounds mad with a few mods, who needs a V8. just noticed the Custom car sticker on the windscreen too If i remember correctly the mag article was a competition for readers to design a modded princess iirc they built the lowrider version.

The 2.2 i sold last year was certainly wafty ;D they deffo have a certain charm so i can see why people love em but past experiance put me off TBH The good part i spose is the origional build quality was so hit and miss only the well built ones are about now ;D which is why they are so rare i spose. BL's trouble was allways they could produce a well built car but hid it amongst 999 other badly thown together ones

I remember when we got rid out our last Amby we were test driving a Sierra, i told my dad we could but it because it had grey interior and as a kid i blamed the Amby's beige interior for me feeling sick in the car all the time!
