So just to clarify... does the portamig come with a blue plug? or the standard household one It comes with none...just a plugless lead and you fit it with whatever you want/need. Some people fit 13A plugs and use them straight off the normal 3pin mains sockets, but you might have to replace fuses if they blow when using on max power for any length of time (especially on the higher power units like 215 or 235) but using them for bodywork they should be fine. If you're going to be welding a fair bit of thick steel (6mm or thicker) then it might be worth getting a dedicated 16A socket fitted in the garage which isn't particularly expensive and means you can run it at max power without fear of tripping the fuse in the fusebox or blowing fuses in the plug ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Normally when people ask this, the answer is 'if you can stretch to £600, go for a portamig'. Fortunately, you appear to have the budget to start with ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) After owning a couple low end welders, and then using Bruce's (Mystery Machine's) Portamig, I found it very hard to settle for anything less. Bruce's is a 215, and mine is a 185 bought from MigTigArc in Portsmouth, so is branded as an MTA, but is identical in every aspect other than the colour of the case. I can personally recommend the service of MTA, though I've never heard a bad word said about Weldequip either. I use 0.6mm wire, argoshield lite and a 13amp plug, but I'm aware of the restrictions of this and don't take it over 2/3 power. My budget started at £300 and I doubled it for the welder I wanted ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

So just to clarify... does the portamig come with a blue plug? or the standard household one Mine came with no plug, I believe you need to wire it yourself, maybe to give the option of a 16A supply. The power cable is definitely massive and up to the job, as is the super-thick copper earth cable.
