Having lived the dream for the last few months, I’m selling up and moving on. This started off as a super clean, minty mint ex-concourse car which had the same owner from ’88 to ’05 and then the next owner kept it in a garage for 6 years and only did a few hundred miles per year.
It comes with a massive folder including every tax disk, service invoice, concourse entry mirror hanger and photos from each summer it was take to shows.
Being an ex-concourse car the underside is as clean as the top with all the suspension and running gear painted up and super clean.
MOT: 17th June 2012
Tax: 30th November 2011
Most recent work carried out was a new cam belt and water pump. Since I’ve owned it I’ve replaced the brake pads and given it a full service including oil, filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, air filter, brake fluid and put a fuel system cleaner through it. I’ve also had the intake side to bits and cleaned it all out and re-set it so it runs perfectly. This was done less than 1000 miles ago. Everything works inside from the electric mirrors to the dials in the console.
Apart from taking care of the oily bits, since buying the car I’ve changed the complete interior for the half leather and Porsche script Lux set up including door cards and centre console. This interior is MINT and makes the car feel more 911 than 924.
Modifications to the car are the wheels and suspension: The wheels are 15x9 and 15x7” Compomotive CXNs with brand new Kumos all round (185 fronts, 195 stretched rears). The suspension has been lowered with GAZ coilovers on the front and adjustable dampers on the rear. Dropping these at the back is a pig and the hard work has been done; I’ve dropped the beam out and re-indexed the torsion bars for a healthy 70mm drop. Even with the 9s there is no rubbing (unless you have a full tank and a boot full of stuff and get enthusiastic; even then it’s only the slightest buzz). The only other change is the turbo rear spats which look sweet.
Bad bits: I’m being picky but it’s a bit slow to start when it’s been left to heat-soak after a run for 40 mins or so. That said, it always does start. Every time. It’s a 924 on K-Jet; show me one that doesn’t do this!
This feels like a short ad for me, but this car is perfect; you look like ‘80s money driving it, it’s reliable, will smash it down the motorway at 85 ticking over at 3500rpm and does 36mpg as long as you don’t spend all day pushing reps in Audis out of the fast lane. It’s also low, but still has ground clearance; it’s totally usable and makes a great daily! Insurance is nothing too.
Entry into the Porsche, champagne lifestyle elite is yours for just £3250 ono
