BIG weekend on the Victor. Started to piece the wiring back together, so far I am a couple of globes away from working indicators, brake lights and taillights. Still need to figure out how to hook up the headlights since the wiring has been cut to change from the old globes to sealed beams.
Gearshift is linked up and seems to be shifting quite well, Starter motor is working, car is turning over, fuel is getting to the carb, just lacking something in the spark department as far as I can tell before she is a runner
Also drilled out the broken stud in the exhaust manifold, reassembled it, hooked up throttle and choke, removed, inspected and reinstalled the waterpump, I think that'll do me for the weekend!
Great car, and I really like that you're having a bash at doing it all yourself! That route looks epic, hoping to come to Melbourne next year and would love to do some driving across the country, probably missed it but when's the rally start?

Got to drive the Victor today, had a little fun bleeding the clutch slave and need to find a suitable upper rad hose, but was otherwise very happy with the drive, if a little scared by 4 wheel drum brakes!
Congratulations first drive! Went better than mine Sounds like all that's left is a bit of fettling and adjustment. If you're like me, after the journey you'll drive a modern and really miss the noise the Victor's gearbox makes.

haven't noticed much gearbox noise, but have been quite impressed by the pulling power of the little 1.5 when there's no-one in the car and the relatively clean changes for a column shift.
Todays tasks were: oil replaced, gearbox oil filled, diff topped up, headlights wired and adjusted, horn wired and extensively tested ( :-D ) battery secured, wipers reassembled, wiring tidied up, coolant flushed and refreshed, accelerator pedal fitted... I need some sleep! not much to do tomorrow before roadworthy hopefully!
Very excited that we have managed to raise over $2,000 for the Shitbox Rally and the Cancer Council so far. We're still working hard to raise plenty more before April.
After taking the Victor for a good run at the start of the week we decided that it was not yet ready for a Sydney trip, so my trusty Volvo 122s will do the trip to collect my co-driver instead. This gives us another couple of weeks to fine-tune the Victor before it's registered and on the road. It needs a bit of a tune up to clear a very small miss and possibly some front carpet or rubber to help deaden the sound of the little 1500 screaming through 3 speed gearbox, but overall I am very excited by how it drove over about 40km of testing in traffic and am looking forward to driving it much further.
Merry Christmas to all those who have supported us by reading this thread or by donating to our everydayhero page.

Well it may look like I've done nothing but I've actually been very busy cleaning up wiring, checking and adjusting wheelbearings and joints, adjusting handbrake... Planning on taking her to my favourite show of the year, Kustom Nats at the start of January on Philip Island, so keep an eye out for us if you're coming along
Anyone know of somewhere I could find the original style oil filters for one of these?

We've got it registered! soo exciting to finally have her on the road with plates and stickers
And to celebrate we're having a sausage sizzle at the Lucky Coq in Prahran all afternoon Sunday 19th, all funds raised from the sausage sizzle go to our team fundraising in support of the Cancer Council
Nice! We're leaving Melbourne on April 14 and hitting Cairns April 20. There will be a decent party in Cairns on arrival and I'm sure there will be a bit of celebrating in Melbourne as well.
First day in Melbourne? 14 April arriving from Singapore Might see you leaving from the plane. Will you be doing a blog, or updating as you go on here. Would be great to try and meet up for some RR hospitaility?

Had an interesting night last night, as Melbourne locals would be aware we had a 'little bit' of rain yesterday afternoon. The Vauxhall is safely locked up behind a gate in the spare loading dock at work, undercover and out of the way. With the torrential rain I thought I would take a quick look to make sure the Victor was OK before heading home. I'll let the photos do most of the explaining:
We dragged it out at around 9pm and pulled all the drainplugs out of the floor. There is water in the sump, but everything else looked ok so we put the key in the ignition, dash lights came on, headlights/indicators/wipers worked, turned the key and it fired straight up! Relief is an understatement.
Here's what it looks like the next morning:
see the high-water line on the radiator surround?
up and over the generator
and straight through the interior
As a result of this incident I am now confident we shose the correct team name for the Shitbox Rally, team Desert Sailors seems very fitting, and in reverence to Top Gear I now know our Victor as the Vaux-boat-all
