Although I'd go with a Fiat Panda - the 4wd would be nice, but the 2wd is just as capable in my experience. 2 suroof version FTW - park in spaces too small to open the door and leave by the roof. [/img] 4x4 Panda is still a good way to go... But these are rare & pricey beasts nowadays. Therefore: Which should be easily achievable on the permitted budget Or even... LOL

This... Dunno what it is, but it looks to have an element of Vauxhall Carlton about the cab. I reckon you could handle the odd apocalypse in it.

What ever you choose,it would be wise not to draw attention to yourself, something that does not stand out. Having said that though .....

It's epic and also an abomination. The aesthetic execution (in my opinion) is great. The engineering was downright dicey in places..

Take one 'new' shape Panda 4x4 - £1750 Put the 100 bhp 1.4 from this inside - £500-1000(?) 15x8 5SP custom wheels from here - £280 General Grabber off road tyres from here - £304 Thule Roof Rack from here - £110 Thule Roof Rack fairing for extra scene points from here - £120 Then all that's left to do is to find out what the suspension specs are on this and then get someone to bodge something similar together for you for £1500 or less to bring you in at £5000-ish.

Volvos - V8? With Fiat / Alfa drivetrain - maybe Integrale?

Biased as I have one but I'd vote for a Mk1 Forester (ideally a 2.5 litre s/TB with some lift.) Basically an Impreza with a practical boot and a terrier-like can-do attitude. No scene tax with a Forester like you get with 'Rally' imprezas. Maybe swap in a STi drivetrain. What's not to love?' Also can be lowered for the summer. (like this - the phenomenal 'Angry Toaster') [edit - plus they're pretty cheap as a project car right now. Mine was only 1k for a 130k mile turbo and they're bombproof. Awesome cars - my mate bought a Turbo S for £900 and it's been faultless for two years of ownership.

Chuckable on the Bs, smooth on the motorway A few issues with worn brakes and steering rack but a sweet car all the same Just needs some impreza struts for a minor lowering and maybe a Yakima roofrack deflector.

I'm all over this, in a "why re-invent-the-wheel" kinda way. Roads are a disgrace up here, and I have had too many dailies with wheel bearing issues for it to be a coincidence. As such, I plumped for one of these: 2.8 has a mountain of torque, manual helps keep it shuffling well. Up front is torsion beam so it actually handles pretty well for a 2 tonne train. Very little essential electrics so will likely fire to life after the shockwave. The weight also suggests that the bomb may come off worse in the fight. Loads of room inside for any needed jerry cans etc (why advertise you have supplies on the roof when you can hide them inside through tinted windows). Pre DPF and common rail diesel, so it can be veg fat run for when fuel supplies are low (I live in Scotland, there will be an abundance of abandoned chippies when the Apocalypse hits) Carries 7 people, so you can make fiends with the entire worlds survivors once the bombs have dropped. If not, then go for the SWB version with the 2.8. Even faster and can be parked in smaller spaces. Also, it looks tough... tougher than most suggested so far. Why do folk butcher Land Rovers? These take a better pounding...

People are focusing too much on the apocalypse.
It's something for now, to be used today, capable of city driving.

People are focusing too much on the apocalypse. It's something for now, to be used today, capable of city driving. *n So how does this fit in? It was my daily drive for six years. And I drove it looking just like that. Everywhere. (I live in the city) It was a lot nipper and handled a lot better than its bulk/proportions lead you to believe, I am sure there are plenty of people can attest to that? So when you say 'something for now', I was doing it back from 2003 although the screens and front cage didn't make an appearance until 2010.
