Around Christmas time my favourite 5'9" longboard 'disappeared' and I've really missed it,having spent the past 3 weeks at home after an op my shed full of tools finally got the better of me so I built a prototype. I got out a 48x12" chunk of russian birch ply and got stuck in basic shape starts to imerge next I cut the wheel wells, finished the shaping and started the staining process 2 coats of laquer later..... finally I added some retro stripes,my bespoke 'logo' and finished it off with some clear deck tape all that remains now is for the new truck bolts to arrive in the post and for me to get a clean bill of health so I can go out to play ;D

Literally that easy? I have has a hankering to build one for a while and should actually have some free money again soon... hmmm a nice long pintail board cant be that hard... I've got enough wood to make at least 10 boards of varying lengths and pintails are on my to do list, the 'BIG TIKI' will be next, making this has got me in the mood to go big now I've mastered wheel wells.the marking out and shaping took quite a while but I'm rather pleased with it. A pintail like the 'Rat Fink' above should be pretty easy to cut and shape, keeping it centred and symetrical has proved to be the hardest part.

Very inspiring! Great work! I am tempted to try this myself - after watching some effortless videos of Longboarding on YouTube, I feel ready to destroy myself in a gravelly mess... Rysz.

very nice. i'd have been tempted to steam and bow it slightly for abit of bounce.
think it's time to pull the old long board down from on top of the kitchen cabinets and re do it in something more fitting of my age. lol

very nice. i'd have been tempted to steam and bow it slightly for abit of bounce. I hear what you're saying, there's plenty of bounce even in 18mm birch ply.you get plenty of strength, and if you shape it right it can be quite lively too, especially once you go beyond 4ft.I ride my longer boards tandem with my children so strength and stability are important,I'm 13+ on my own. ;Dthe 5'7" 'BIG TIKI' has started to take shape, the wheel wells are done and now I'm matching the contours.it can get rather addictive! you started yours yet grizz?

last weekend was a blast,I've been following a number of inspirational threads on here which put me back in the mood for creativity and prompted the building of this my 7yr old and I fashioned it from an old pallet,a disused skateboard and some wheelie bin wheels. I got these finished ages ago too but, hadn't been able to ride them until just before Christmas.there's plenty of spring in the 5'7'' board which makes carving lots of fun. ;DI've been playing with the set up on the shorter one to improve my sliding.
