Oh yes! I'd gladly have a VDP in my dream garage. I had a cream 5 dr with a lovely brown velour interior. Leccy windows, central locking, wood trim and an LCB exhaust/1275 combination (standard fitment on VDPs I think?) that made it a right rorty fun family wagon! Short of the legendary leather-trimmed VDP 500, Metros don't get any better* *Don't be a bunch of nit-pickers, I'm not including 6R4s or Tickford specials!

When newish the metro had an awful reputation for reliability, also terrible corrosion problems at only 3 to 6 year old (fair play to local Austin Rover dealer at the time: Charles Clark of Telford, they took cars in and replaced panels under the so-called anti corrosion warranty; although I believe other dealers around the country at the time weren't so helpful). From my experiance of looking after friends cars I will always remember them as one of the worst made cars. Memories of 4 & 3 year old METROS in the late 80'S and early 90'S suffering from rust and silly 'design failings' on certain compoments. They were no match for a Nissan Micra or Toyota Starlet or even a Ford Fiesta. Perhaps thanks to cars like the Metro we don't have a major car industry anymore !? But now Metro is old/classic/retro it has every right to be on this forum. Also no mater how bad a car has been some should always be saved as an example/piece of history

My Mother has a late nightfire Rover metro as I have mentioned before, what I have not mentioned though is that I conned her into letting me drive it to town one morning while i had no working vehicle. W00T, what a machine! more fun than being taxeed to the pub with her driving. ace, and thats following driving the MR2 for a few weeks. Ok it didnt handle as good as the MR2 nor was it as fast obviously, but a few cheeky wheels spins and an involving drive. I want one, and if the MR2 goes I might have to put one on the list. I wouldn't like to do long distance/high speeds in one but my mother is scared of motorways so it suits her perfect. Edit, I must add that rust is an issue and the petrol tank is in a daft place etc etc, but I'd rather have one than a Mini! Do it slater, show us the metro benchmark!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

they're great, next youll be saying allegros are curse word too! I had a 1.1 K series one, it was a hoot to drive and very nippy, great on the motorway too, very comfortable and I'm 5ft1! needed a load of welding on its 9th birthday though *edit* just like to add it wasnt all good fun and rust, once on the motorway the engine exploded and cost me nearly £500 to fix, but then the water pump was leaking badly and id forgotten to top it up, doh! * E D I T* I'm 6FT 1 NOT 5.1 doh! dumbass

Metros are great fun,.. had one as my first car... All it takes is someone to build an ace one and you'll all love 'em Pog considering the utter wibblepoo you've been party to purchasing and lusting after it really is a case of black pots and kettles etc. etc.

now don't go getting him confused with Russel! ;D They actually ARENT the same person! lol How can this cause me so much amusement? Still smirking about the idea of Lewis having to drive round with pic’s of Mr Bo11ox on his car (my mind wandered here, presumably he’d have to visit Whist Drives, Jumble Sales, Tea Dances and the like with A Walk in the Black Forest ‘pumping’ out of an 8-track to give maximum exposure to the Bo11ox brand – inspiration for this from Meatballturbo’s comments about the eBay Victor FD), now I’m developing the thought of Russell being some kind of alter-ego of Pogweasel, allowing Pog to buy ‘less good’ cars while pretending they’re not actually his. I love this place.

Maybe the Russell ‘brand’ comes under the Pog corporate umbrella, like Skodas/Seats etc being part of VW. Basically allowing pog to tackle other corners of the Ebay shi1te spectrum without ‘tainting’ his own core values, whatever those are.

Nobody else feeling this.... I think this looks the absolute T*ts - imagine it with a stripped out caged interior, bucket seat and 1.4K series on TBs I think Metros are those cars that are so bad - they are good - and the more povo-spec, dissentry coloured the better ;D ........ damn I really want a MiniMetro

I have owned a Metro 1.3 clubman, Mirca mk1 Ritz (curse word special edition) and a Fiesta xr2 and said statement I feel is unfair (IMO). Cant speak for the Starlet never driven one. All it takes is someone to build an ace one and you'll all love 'em TRUE. the end.

^ I don't disagree but as I said it was from my own experiance , plus ironically I had an XR2 at the time and it was an ACE car (it was older than some of the metro's my friends had). I suppose it's fine now (due to their age) for metros to be rusty etc. (as per all the rest of the cars of this age and older that we love ;D) But my point was when they were newish and people had shelled out a few thousand on a 'new' car it was a little heart breaking to be confronted with Water leaks, Engine Oil leaks, Rust (on a new car), electrical problems, collapsed (and creaking) suspension and so on... I say 'new' but to a lot of people the Metro was an 'old' car when it came out.

Been feeling the love for these a lot lately. Heard more good reviews than bad concerning their handling etc. Modding them is presumably easy as pie as you can use Mini bits, also think the pottatochops above look seriosly kick and ass Very very tempted to get an early one for use at Uni.
