Not usually into the ultra modern treatments but this thing has caught my imagination just right citroenid19hotrod.blogspot.com/I think its an ID not a DS but I can't recall the differences. I can't believe he has people dissing him for "sacrelidge". Blog layout is really hard to follow but its worth clicking away and finding the photos and info.

Wow. I've always thought that there are too few modded DS / ID's about. That looks amazing!
I think the DS circle has a large proportion of rivet-counters in their contingent, so I'm not surprised some "purists" are having a pop at him. But, I think that if you're getting those kind of people's backs up, you must be doing something right! ;D

I think the comment by the Citreon beard sniffer about it being a disgrace is a bit harsh.

Mmm, I like the look of that! But I can see the old buffers point. A pity to put so much conventional engineering into such an innovative car. Funny that it sits really low but doesn't look odd 'cos they can do that as standard Saw one when I was out earlier too

Noooooo!
What was he thinking of, binning the hydraulics?
That's an example of how to ruin the ride and handling of a DS.....

Yeah that was a bit of an odd move, ditching the suspension. Still a damn sweet motor.

What a conundrum.
He obviously loves the DS shape (and who wouldn't). However upgrading a DS with better power etc is going to be hard. Still it does seem to be ripping the heart out f the car.
I don't think anyone has ever complained about teh stopping power of citroen brakes though.
IMHO I'd have gone for keeping the hydraulics and upgrading to C6 or XM gubbins to get the modern performance.
Bottom line it's his car and if he wants it like that then cool. The quality looks superb and the DS in not yet an endangered car, in fact in the US I think it's looked upon as a bit of a junker!

well, I doubt the DS handles as well as that will when its done. Looks like apretty full on track style suspension going on there, and it will be running significantly more power than the stoocker did...
I think it says somewhere in the blog that he wanted to retain the original hydroelastics but convert them to run the trick new suspension but the estimates came out about $38,000 to do it. Thats a lot of money to spend on suspension... How much is a decent set of coilovers these days?

It wouldn't rock if it still had the hydraulics ;-)

That's very, very nice. One of the comments:
'I Like what you are doing to your DS, I have a 66 DS 21 Break and have had the same plans for it since November 2005 when i bought it. Now i'm in the process of purchasing the donor car a 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII that has a rear wheel drive full independent rear suspension and air ride system to keep some of the smooth ride the citroen is famos for. Also the drive line is a Modular dual overhead cam 32 valve 4.6 that is the same ast the one in the Mustang Cobras pushing out 290HP.'
Now that sounds like a giggle...

Thats fantastic ! I'll be keeping up with that ! ;D As with all classic/retro models, there are those who don't appreciate them being 'fettled' (its a bloody disgrace ... etc) but the DS/ID isnt unbelievably rare, after all there were almost 1600 driven through Paris in 2005 and as mentioned earlier, in the US they arent held in the same regard as they are in Europe. Yes, its always nice to see classic/retro cars given the 'factory' treatment, but equally there is always room for those that are a bit different. I think his conversion/standard of work is superb and if anything, probably promotes genuine interest in the DS/ID in general. Its an excellent example of a classic/retro keeping (in some part, suspension aside !) its charm, style and character, whilst undergoing some tasteful modification. If there isnt a place for that in the classic/retro world, then I'm off.
