I once saw a red Type 2 which had been rollered with Rustoleum and the finish was superb.
Every car I've painted I go down the celly then flat & polish route. This is definately an alternative, excellent work!

Must have taken ages to paint that canal boat! Looks really good too! sorry morns, I'm not trying to high jack your thread, I was just showing you whats available without having to spray, as most people don't have big garages or booths... if any ones interested I can do a coach painting thread..? and remember, its alllll in the prep!!! Its all good content, i think i might brush the next coats, as when i did the plasic trim at the front i used a small brush rather than roller and the finish was much better!! A coach painting thread is a great idea, will add a link to it on the original post as it seems very relevant! Saw this van in Biggleswade last week Yeah i just moved to Biggleswade from Somerset 6 months ago so don't know the area very well! I am always up and down the A1 tho!! Interesting. This Rustoleum stuff - are you limited to their colour 'range' or can you have it made up to match (well, ish) an existing colour of vehicle? Anyone know?? Also just realised based on the last post that you only live just around t'corner from me, Morns... Not sure about mixing the colours, i would guess (and i stress GUESS) that you could mix two colours and come up with your own as its the same stuff, but getting an exact match second time round could be tricky!!!! |

Excellent information. Thanks for compiling the info. It must be very satisfying to get a good result without forking out thousands for a professional job.
I'll be coming back to this thread when the time comes for paint on mine.

Yes darryl, this is suitable for GRP too.
How did you get on with mixing this with celly thinners? i used white spirit as directed, i expect the celly thinners made the paint cure faster?

right - I've got a recently aquired VW T25 which has had a nasty matt back hand painted paint job in the past.....  I've got a bit of spare time this summer, and I don't have much spare cash so Rustoleum is going to be the way forward for me Will post up some progress pics as I go - it will all be weather dependant as the bus is too big to fit in my garage, so will be painted outside  |
