Ok, so me and Mrs Rich have had this flakey old MGB GT since September.. Bought it from a laydee who was having some marital trouble and wanted rid.. (long story) Having been stood for 4 years, I was amazed that it just wanted the timing set, the fuel pump thumped and the headlights aligning to get it back on the road! Result! Have replaced the front pads and calipers in case as the pistons were mighty rusty, as you do. The piles of tat and rubbish however were another matter.. Gauges glued to the dash top, wires twisted together, speaker wire bypassing the headlamp loom.. The list goes on. Suffice to say, I rebuilt the front lighting loom from scratch, fitted a modern indicator relay, hazard lights, headlamp relays and a modern fusebox. Everything on the car now works as it should, which for a lucas wired car is pretty amazing! Also swapped the wires for steels (you'll see why later) Have some pics! Nighttime shots! The plans? seeing as it already has this mental 70's front spoiler (seemingly a F/G copy of the LE spoiler) it would be rude not to fit some appropriate wheels. Cheers Mr KFW Also plan on loosing the over-riders cause it looks a bit toothy, and fitting a duckbill rear spoiler. And this ended up in my grubby mitts after an A52 playweekend for less than the advertised price, of £19.. DCOE manifold Will update soon, will leave you with a pic from Butterz to admire!

That's some undershot of a spoiler what did you do regarding rear axle when you converted to studs? What size are the split rims? I'll be following this with interest

Very nice, then again I am biased as I love them. Also makes me want ti stick the bumpers back on mine
Good score on the dcoe fannimould, hate to think how much I paid for mine. TBH I would not bother sticking a weber on, the twin SU's are more tweekable and give just as good performance, with better MPG, only downside is the induction noise. Saying that unless your changing the CAM etc.
Has it had larger valves fitted? Its worth whipping the head off to check before you yog out for the weber. Easy way of telling is the block will have cut outs for the enlarged inlets.
If you need any parts just drop me a PM, restored about 11 now so I've collected a stock pile of good bits.

I have lots of love for B's, and on those wheels yours is gonna look COOL. Make sure it gets acquainted with the weeds at the same time.

That's some undershot of a spoiler what did you do regarding rear axle when you converted to studs? What size are the split rims? I'll be following this with interest Not sure what you mean about the spoiler, but I just swapped the entire axle with a lad who wanted wires, same with the front hubs. The Compotives are 14X6.5" but I don't know the ofset to hand. They are just about right though Very nice, then again I am biased as I love them. Also makes me want ti stick the bumpers back on mine Good score on the dcoe fannimould, hate to think how much I paid for mine. TBH I would not bother sticking a weber on, the twin SU's are more tweekable and give just as good performance, with better MPG, only downside is the induction noise. Easy way of telling is the block will have cut outs for the enlarged inlets. If you need any parts just drop me a PM, restored about 11 now so I've collected a stock pile of good bits. My plan was to get some period trumpets for the SU's, ditching the 'curse of the B series' pancake filters, and getting it tuned up nice as the idle is all over the shop and its running rather rich. I literally bought the DCOE manifold cause it was cheap, and if one day I find a 45 for the right money I'll buy it, but no rush to ditch the HS4's Not really interested in going too wild with it tuning wise, not just yet anyway but cheers for the tip-offs Parts I need.. Hmm.. a set of Doors, a bonnet, rear headliner thing where the interior light goes at the rear, cam cover.. The list is fairly endless Drop me a PM with what you have

Love this car - the perfect Rich & Mrs Rich car. Aviators, driving gloves and appropriate music is very fitting whenever I see either of you driving it. Glad to see some pics to visualise the tales of epic filler sessions and bodged repairs from the previous owner. I was laughing myself silly yesterday when you we explaining all the intricacies of 'pritt stick' fillering and other such eye watering bodgery. Rolfbrizzletime indeed! Also pleased to see the update without use, mention or even hint of that dreaded word. You have restored my faith Having seen a sneak peek of the finished wheels and knowing what the paint colour is going to be...and the amount of work you're putting in to get it looking nice again, I cannot wait to see this finished. Looking good so far fella, but it's going to be amazing once you've finished. ;D

Update time! First up, decided to tackle the top of the wheelarch.. I then cut my fingers on the sharp metal and Zoe proceeded to forget to take any more photos of that.. Anyway. Remember this? I did. Chop! Decided on a slightly different, slightly easier but absolutely end-result-the-same repair at this point. I DO wear a mask Looking better. See if you can see what I did.. Chop.. ..chop.. grind.. More holes.. Then a towel caught fire somehow.. A mask! Pod repair going on.. Holey valance getting some love.. I then ate some skips like a boss.. And that brings us almost up to date. This is where we are at: Much better. MUCH MUCH betterer. I put some brush-on on it as a filler primer. I don't like that yellow filler primer aerosol. See through now! Moar soon!

Nice work Rich, what did the new headlight bowls fit like? And a great way of sorting the rear pods too!

Some great work there on sorting out the rear pods. No doubt with your plans and restoring techniques that this car should be lovely once it is roadworthy .

I had a 1972 MGB GT with 1860cc +0.060" overbored engine, Peter Burgess head, Maniflow manifolds, etc, etc., and fitted a Weber 45DCOE to it, took it out one night for a maximum speed run to see what it would do. It got up to about 100 mph, then the engine lost power and there was a huge smoke trail out the back. I limped it home, running on three cylinders. Turned out, I'd blown a hole in No. 4 piston CROWN. I'd only owned the car for 1,000 miles!!! I found a replacement standard 18V engine for £25 locally and bunged it in, and reverted back to the twin SUs. It ran better than the so-called 'uprated' engine ever did! ;D

Cheers guys, the repair is maybe not original but it looks the same with the lights and bumpers on so that's what matters. Would have been far more time consuming to do it as per factory, and there is till a lot of mgb left to work on headlamp bowls are a nice fit, thought they'd be cheapy ones but turns out they are wipac so are pretty good. Got no real plans for engine tuning to be fair beyond a decent exhaust, free flowing air intake and a good tuneup. Already got trumpets and socks on the su's which made a massive difference to the shonky pancake filters it had when we got it and it has one less exhaust box now so just want to get a decent manifold and get it all set up nice
