Hey guys,
I've been on this forum a while but havn't posted much.
Having recently moved to Leeds I'm looking for some appropriate venues to work on my car. I have got a 1983 Toyota Corolla with a Honda S2000 engine fitted. I'm currently in the process of wiring in Hondas standard management.
It would be nice to have access to a ramp or pit for when it comes to working under the car.
Has anyone on this forum got something in place in the Leeds/West Yorkshire area?
Regards,
Ben

If you find anything out then I would like to hear too. I live in LS9 so really close. I have not got any space/facility's myself, just my driveway. I'm learning/hobbyist when it comes to cars but would like to get more involved.
Just happens I have an 1982 corolla too, just standard at the moment. You can see the link in my sig below.

Hi Steve,
Your the first person I've heard from. I have a driveway and garage, however it would be nice to have the facilities of a ramp/pit for working underneath the car.
I have found a self service garage in Batley, they charge £8 p/h for use of their ramps.
My Corolla is the AE86 chassis, having had it two years, it's about time it went back on the road.
You should pop up for a coffee and a chin wag!
Regards,
Ben

Yeah sure, we should meet up. Sorry I'm not in a position to offer you much facility wise but would be cool to see your car. Mine is the KE70 (or TE71 in UK) chassis so just before your AE86. havent really seen an AE86 in detail but I believe they have some common parts under the skin, I am new to toyotas so might be wrong.
I just received a repair arch panel (picked up yesterday) so will have the challenge of fitting that soon. The car is road legal though so I can bring it up, just don't expect a minter, far from it!!!!.
Have you any links to your car, pics or a build thread?

Ah, don't worry. Mine is no minter either. Here is one picture, from when I first picked it up. And here is it's current state I'm "currently" (using the word loosely) converting it to run off the factory ecu.

Nice Toyotas gents.
Ive been looking for a number of years for somewhere to store and work on the car. Myself and Stealthstylz went and looked at somewhere last year but it was abit big for what we needed/could afford. I will, again, keep my eyes out around the Wakefield/South Leeds area.

there's an old bodyshop place (Castleton Cars) on Armley Road that I walk past every day, bit run down and no idea who to contact but could be perfect community venue with a bit of work, woud imagine it would be fairly cheap considering its been stood empty for years maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Armley+Road,+Leeds&hl=en&ll=53.795821,-1.567954&spn=0.007883,0.022724&sll=53.798023,-1.505578&sspn=0.126128,0.363579&oq=armley&hnear=Armley+Rd,+Leeds,+United+Kingdom&t=h&z=16&layer=c&cbll=53.795821,-1.567954&panoid=FeUNy1hVE_JWmkVuiEmXxQ&cbp=12,0,,0,0

I've thought about an "Area LS9" workshop/clubhouse aswell.
I'm currently very lucky to have negotiated a space right next to the welder at my work, but I live in constant fear of my boss changing his mind.
I would be interested if anyone does find somewhere.
And it looks like it would be full of cool cars, nice toyotas.

Hey guys!
I havn't checked up on this thread in a while!
I've lived in Leeds for 12 months now but I'm not familiar with the area.
Mk14dr - What were the specifics on the place you looked at? Size/Price/Location? It would be nice to work out how many people would have to be involved to make something work.

Its a stretch calling that chapel allerton, I would be concerned over security on that road, its very dark and very cut off - but if its a secure unit then its not so bad

I was in the area so I met up with the guy and had a look at these, there is a large unit there which is £600 - 650 a month (cant remember which he said now), it has a pay as you go electric meter in it and it would fit 8 odd cars with room to move. They are really nice and they charge lower rent for the first 6 months and build it up to the correct rent, no security issues, 24 hour cameras and a garage that is often in use till 4am apparently, secure gated yard with 24 hour access. Really nice guy to deal with too I am looking at a smaller one in the same estate with a friend. I am looking for space to store a couple of cars and be able to work on them at the same time.

Really nice guy to deal with too I am looking at a smaller one in the same estate with a friend. I am looking for space to store a couple of cars and be able to work on them at the same time. Went back today and looked at the smaller unit - its £550 and about half the size, I guestimated I would fit 4 cars and my small caravan easily. But, if its to be a community thing and a group are puttting in the the extra £100 for the other one is well worth it, its a good space! The reason the prices are similar is due to the access, the cheaper one has better access and a more prominent front, it also has a toilet and running water. The bigger one has perfectly good access but would require a 90 degree turn on a narrow lane to get into it so not great for large vehicles and/or trailers. Again, the chap is very nice and the units are tidy, dry and have nice flat floors. (the larger one was £650 at full price)

Hmm, that is quite tempting. I would like to have a look (obviously) before considering anywhere. And in a ideal world there needs to be a meet-up and discusion between all parties involved to see what everyone wants from a unit
For instance, at the moment I just need somewhere to store escRot, but later in the year that will turn into needing to do a strip down and potentially grind/weld.
No running water in the bigger unit? No toilet? These are inportant issues if we're spending lots of time there and getting mucky.
Also, the tight access may be an issue when (not if) I buy something huge and american.

I've got a couple to Chase up but they're more selby way. I've rapidly come to the conclusion that there's nowhere worth renting in Leeds unless its for business use.

We just got a unit after months of looking online. . The best thing we foun to do is not look online but to GO to industrial estates and see what's empty.
The cheap units are not online and If you guys don't mind a bit of traveling then it makes it easier to find somewhere. Theres a few of you so if u club together you could get something really nice
