Saab engine? Actually I know they are heavier than the redtop so thats out. But doesnt a TD lump weigh more than a redtop? Ive seen the saab engine done and its very wide so you end up cutting chassis legs etc so a c20let would be less hastle for that power plus as you say they are heavy too. As would be the TD but going that route would be aimed more to the side of economy than power or fastness (although it would be quicker than the GTE or GSI nova with loads more torque), meaning i may not begrudge driving it regually. Hhhhmm food for thought!

TD doesnt weigh more than a redtop, same footprint in the block, alloy head. infact you could argue its lighter, one less camshaft as associated drivetrain.
would be a cool project, what about a tuned 1.5TD isuzu unit from a late nova or corsa B ? direct fit, and still unique

Why go for the 1.5? The 1.7 is the same other that the CC.

Liking the use of the plasma, never actually thought of using one but when you think about it it stands to sense, all those fidly bits can be cut out neatly. Top job so far, keep up the good work

I love these, they have the "hooligan" look about them straight from the factory!

Cheers Chap. Yer the plasma makes short work of most cutting and you down have to go at it cutting bit by bit with the grinder

Thanks Darren, when the car was still in one piece i stuck some drop lines on it and had a quick measure up all seemed as it should for a nova. no unusual tyre wear and it steered in a straight line which is always a positive start lol

you have some mad fabrication/welding skills! great to see a nova being restored! dad still has his b reg one thats been in the family since 1992! apart from the engine, are you restoring the interior/exterior back to standard? or going to modify?

My god man, your welding skills are ridiculous! Really like the derv route you're going down too. Cheers Arkle i'm not 100% set on the 1.7 TD route however it looks like a good option, i have been toying with the 1.6 16v on bike carbs route too ;D you have some mad fabrication/welding skills! great to see a nova being restored! dad still has his b reg one thats been in the family since 1992! apart from the engine, are you restoring the interior/exterior back to standard? or going to modify? Thanks Chris, i have a few ideas (nothing boy racer before anyone starts ) i had originally thought i might go down the rounded nova saloon arches route. I even destroyed a rotten saloon for the rear quarter panels but I'm now undecided as they box arches are so typically nova. What ever i do it will be staying the original colour and look pretty standard. As for the interiour i was considering a cage and bucket seats but we will see. i started by cleaning off the edges of the bits to make up the front lower cross member so i had a nice clean surface for weldage Clamped them in place to keep everything were it should be Applied a few tacks of weld Giving me this Then the first run of weld Both sides welded Cleaned off a bit And ran a grinding disc through the centre of the weld on the top facing surface to V it out a little so i could run a cap weld over the to so it will smooth out flat. Caped V'ed the other top facing surface And capped Smoothed Primed And tried it for visualisation I'm happy with that
