seen a few late registered cars lately and been making me think why did it take so long to register? the main one though was a P reg (1996) mitsubishi colt. nothing strange you say? this was the pre 1992 shape colt (the one that looks like a swift) checked it on dvla and sure enough, manufactured in 1990 but registered in 1996. So whats the latest registered car everyone else has found?

I've seen a C-plate Cortina estate, used by Radio Borders as an OB car. IIRC it may have been a Cortina body on a P100 chassis to support the mast.
And a while back there was an L-reg white MR2 on eBay. What's odd about that? It was a Mk 1.

I used to see a P reg Morris Minor Traveller. Before about '82 the DVLA issued you a current plate if you had a previously unregistered car. The Morris was ex-MOD and had previously been on Army plates. When they ere sold they just got current civilian plates. I suspect there were late registered landrovers and the like too.

Couple of "L" Reg Sierra's about. Seen "X" reg (2001) Maestro's and heard about some 51 reg's too. Also a Sierra 3 door on a 51 reg (IIRC) as it was built with 100% new old stock parts inc the body shell.

think there are a couple of late Polo G40's that are on a T plate and one on as S plate, and the latest should have been on an M plate. apparently they were in storage containers for a few years and from about 2008 I remember a 1980 unregistered MGB being for sale (top car in the link below) www.blackandwhitecarsbmth.com/black-and-white-cars-bournemouth-showroom.asp?view=Searchand the morris minor with the dodgy (modern) registratiion in the Muller Light Advert

At one time no matter what year registered in Northern Ireland if subsequently reregistered with DVLA they issued a current year reg. It was used as a method of getting rid of Q reg on kit cars, rebuilt write offs, imports etc and there were firms advertising the services without the car leaving your possetion - ie "accomodation" address in NI. DVLA caught on after a while and close the loophole.

It used to be that when a car was imported, it was given a current registration. My Dad had a Volvo Amazon from 1964 which was LHD and imported from Germany, it had a S-Reg.
The vehicle details for VTO 382S are: Date of Liability 01 06 1990 Date of First Registration 18 11 1977 Year of Manufacture 1964 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1778cc CO2 Emissions Not Available Fuel Type PETROL Export Marker N Vehicle Status Unlicensed Vehicle Colour BLUE Vehicle Type Approval Not Available

Also a Sierra 3 door on a 51 reg (IIRC) as it was built with 100% new old stock parts inc the body shell. Those Maestros are CKD kits returned from Belgium and assembled. They're usually referred to as Ledbury Maestros, and really are as new as the plates suggest.

I know of a D reg ( 1987/88 ? ) MK2 Granada....used to be around the Putney area..... ....no pics tho , sorry Mk3 Granada was launched in early '86, so it's quite feasable that there were a fair few Mk2's still knocking about unsold late that year...which would put them on a D-plate.

A repost I know, and maybe not a late registration. Others to add to the list are late registered MGBs and Midgets (I have seen one on a new D plate!). I did also spot a J plate registered Escort RS Turbo. If you want late registrations, how about the XJ220. I believe many of them were registered way beyond their production date due to them being a commercial flop.
