Watched the Steve McQueen Le Mans film this afternoon skipped all the romantic stuff and concentrated on the the race footage. Some epic footage in the film, the slow motion Ferrai crash in particular.
So Gulf-Porsche 917 or Ferrari 512 (or maybe the production 911's or McQueen's road 911s).
Think I might have to watch Grand Prix tomorrow...

How weird - finally got round to watching Le Mans for the first time yesterday. Awesome.

As I posted on FB last night. hunt out this book.... ....its not cheap (up to £100 on Amazon brand new) it covers behind the screens making the film. Lots of great tales like the time they had all finished filming and then decided to drive back to the hotel in the race cars, at speed! ;D

As I posted on FB last night. hunt out this book... How rude of me, I didn't reply. That book sounds superb - I'll set myself reminders to periodically trawl eBay/Amazon/etc to find it a bit cheaper!

I haven't read that book, and at £100 not likely to but I have read Steve McQueens autobiography which covers some of this, and what he got uto while filming The Great Escape. I think vanity project sums up Le Mans, he just wanted an excuse to drive racing cars....
