Wow, this is a pretty interesting thread indeed. Ive have been involved in the Hifi industry since the early 90s (I used to run my own Hifi shop at one point) and ive owned all manner of gear My highlights were one of the prototype Pink Triangle turntables and a pair of one off Chario speakers hooked up to mahoosive Beard monoblock valve amps. The list of systems ive owned is vast but I eventually succumbed to giving myself more living room space and now run just an early 90s Pioneer amp hooked up to my Apple Airport and a pair of TDL Nucleus 1s (sounds great!) However I did just knock up this ipod unit a week or so ago! I'd love to know more about how you've done this as I'm planning on doing the same myself soon!

Just had this little score off Freecycle.... Nothing beats something for free especialy when its this nice. Its a Sony V901 seperates system circa 1989 according to a quick google. Very advanced for the time, Video inputs, optical in and out and built in D/A converters for DAT or CD even the turntable works off the remote providing theres a record on there. Very pleased with how it sounds too. The speakers are an old pair of my home mades. This is now my main system

Mine goes up to 12. Mid-70s Bang & Olufsen Beomaster 901 finished in Teak, hooked up to a pair of Beovox S45-2 loudspeakers in Rosewood. Tbh the sound could be better (it's bizarre, almost no mid-range but a shedload of warm bass and the most detailed treble I've ever heard) and I wish the 901 was in Rosewood too, but the whole lot only cost me £30 from a market stall about 12 years ago, and the custom-made DIN speaker cables and interconnects cost me a case of beer from a spark I knew.

That room is EPIC ;D I have a fair few portable units, from the 60's upto the 90's, but I found this at the car boot maybe a month or so back. I overheard the lady saying she wasn't taking anything home, and I saw it poking out of the top of a box. I asked how much 'for the old stereo'...... ......didn't hold out much hope, but brought it home, plugged it in....hey presto. Oh...how much? £2 ;D I got this one at the weekend, identical to one I had when I was a teenager...not high end, but a cool bit of kit imho. It is FAR bigger than it looks on that picture!

2 quid! You were robbed but seriously you can grab some top bargains at the car boots, I'm sure there must be people out there making a living paying daft prices at car boots, then stickin it on evil bay & making a killing. Glad you like the room.

That and freecycle any HIFI on there is snapped up almost instantly.. Gumtree is also worth a look too I missed a mid 70's silver Rotel seperates system with turntable all boxed as new complete with a set of Wharfedale Dovedale 3 speakers. How much did he sell for??...... £5 But I thought straight away about buying it and shoving it straight on Ebay.

I've done some research and found out that my Dads old turntable was a Transcriptor Hydraulic Reference tunrtable. Just like this one: I'm going to phone him in a mo' in that vain hope that he still has it. I doubt it very much, but it would be awesome if he did! (failing that, I'm hoping he still has some of his other audio stuff that he fancies donating to his adoring son! ) i thought i had seen one of those before ! its in 2 scenes of a clockwork orange

I really like Technics audio equipment and have a late 90's setup in the living room but I just bought this locally for £20 inc a matching cassette deck and turntable. I think its from the early to mid 80's.

I hadn't seen these in a while.. Nice but nothing special Rotel transistorb amp. Lovely Leak Delta 70 tuner, I have an amp to match it somewhere. Leak Point One Plus preamp, goes with... This monster! Pye HF25 mono valve power amp. This was made in the 50's by the company who made most, if not all, of the British sonar equipment in WW2. Making the best audio amplifier was simply a matter of deciding to do it for these guys. I toyed with the idea of getting another to run a stereo system but they seem to go for a bit too much money..

I am appreciating those transformers, they certainly weren't penny pinching in the design.
