I love how it's blatantly been done just to see if it could be done, and p*ss people off now that it has ;D Think it'd look better with tyres that fitted o the edge of the lip at least - it just looks odd to me. But I guess that's not really the point. I'm no expert but the suspension does look more than a little bit dodgy tbh. I love it

I'm not really that taken with it, but only because it's just not my thingI reallu like the idea of pushing boundaries, going a bit further, and doing it "because you can." My concern is that it is shoddy. My bigger concern is that someone over here will want to replicate it, but will use even shoddier methods and, as a result people will end up hurt or killed. This will be the event that sparks the prohibition of car modifying. You can have as much positivity as you like, but whrn there's no hobby to be positive about..... :(Shoot me

For supposedly broad-minded and intelligent people, you lot really can be set in your ways.
Still, if you want to encourage the modification of suspension components with slotted bar and washers, and then call me for being concerned, then so be it. I'm not some pansy-arsed health and safety fanatic, but I am concerned that someone's half arsed modification could spell the beginning of the end for this hobby.
Of course, if you'd rather just post pictures of nuns, kittens and other people's cars, this won't actually have an impact on your lives.
I like modified cars, I like pushing boundaries. I'm not struck on how this one looks, but I wouldn't be half as bothered if it didn't show so many signs of being cocked up.
For perspective, someone posted a picture of Slater's Peugeot. Read the build thread, because that's how it should be done.

Rust holes full of filler/cars designed for 45bhp fitted with engines making 400bhp/roof chops so there's only 4" of screen lef etc etc are all equally as dangerous if you don't understand the limitations that they introduce. I'm not even sure if the epotted bar is off this car.

supposedly broad-minded and intelligent people Well, that's patronising. But I don't have time to respond, as there's more important work to do...

Actually, we're encouraging people to see this car for what it is and enjoy it. Not emulate it. Members of this board are supposed to be intelligent enough not to spoil threads with obvious comments, especially when they're combined with incorrectly directed insults. For perspective, someone posted a picture of Slater's Peugeot. Read the build thread, because that's how it should be done. Because all people on this forum only like slanty wheeled Celicas. No one other than you has read Slater's build thread until you pointed it out. We're all blindly building dangerous cars with our tiny brains while you push boundaries safely. Alternatively. We have read Slater's thread (and numerous others) and know enough to tell the difference between safe and unsafe or clever and stupid without assuming we're the only ones and feeling it's our duty to educate people who we assume to be stupid.

At last someone understands what I'm trying to say. rmad, there was nothing intended as an insult in what I posted. Matt correctly put it that all mods cause limitations, and that is where my concerns lie. Not in the mods themselves, but the fact that if they are displayed without any discussion of those limitations, then other less knowledgeable people might think they can use a car like this in an everyday manner. The use of cats, nuns, big red letters and misdirected sarcasm really isn't necessary. I'm not looking for negativity, just perspective. If that makes me a bad person, I'll take that. I just want the whole hobby to survive rather than getting shafted because someone reads something here then takes it a bit too far because no-one implied any sort of caution. Right, I'm off to the seaside for the weekend, It better be nice.

Not in the mods themselves, but the fact that if they are displayed without any discussion of those limitations, then other less knowledgeable people might think they can use a car like this in an everyday manner. I think rmad's point is that we know this, it doesn't need to be pointed out, and there is an insulting subtext in that you (and others) feel the need to point it out. If I watch a video of someone BASE jumping I am able to think "that looks cool, but without proper equipment and technique it could be deadly",.. I don't need someone on every BASE jumping video to tell me "that looks dangerous"... it is implicit. Same with extreme cars, from street cars that can do sub 10 second quarters, to heavily reworked suspension. Your concern is genuine, and reasonable, but it doesn't need to be pointed out, as (I hope) we're not that stupid round here. ... on the other hand sarcastic comments and macroimages don't help anyone explain this. Enjoy the beach...
