That's the tipping point for me. Me too. I keep coming back to this thread in disbelief that it's a rendering! Never has anything looked so utterly convincing. I was originally going to comment on it being the best photography I'd seen on any thread for a very, very long time....and then I saw the comment about it being virtual. Then I just collapsed! This really is the starting point for me of convincingly blurring the boundaries of what's real and what's not. If it's not real, then it sure looks like it is...even with close inspection. If that's not blurring the boundary then I don't know what is? I wish I could take photos like that, but then I bet most photographers would too! Seriously stunning and seriously impressive...on a scale I still can't quite fathom. So, who's going to build it then?

i was mildly disappointed to find out the Mad mini i stuck up a couple of weeks ago was a p shop but this one is even worse it reminds me a bit of the mini in Dirt 2(?) wonder if it was a base for this. all the same wish it was real i may have to use it as my new desktop and then build a replica when budgets (better half!) allow

Well, I have a hankering for a Mini, but with other stuff going on, I think you might have to wait for a while It is indeed awesome as a rendering, no wonder it took the guy so long to do But, the back wheels are a bit too big for me! Mind you, if it had a Civic Type R engine and gearbox in there I guess it would need to be pretty wide

That's the tipping point for me. Me too. I keep coming back to this thread in disbelief that it's a rendering! Never has anything looked so utterly convincing. Probably nowhere near as many times as I have gone back to the blog post to make sure I hadn't just read it all wrong! The thing I find amazing is the way it almost looks real-er in the close up shots. Fantastic attention to detail. I was mildly disappointed to find out the Mad mini I stuck up a couple of weeks ago was a p shop but this one is even worse it reminds me a bit of the mini in Dirt 2(?) wonder if it was a base for this. all the same wish it was real I may have to use it as my new desktop and then build a replica when budgets (better half!) allow The rear engined Mini in Dirt 3 is pretty good, as is the standard one, but they aren't quite up to the standard of this one. Probably because of restrictions from the game engine and time. (excuse the poor screenshot)For those that haven't gone to the blog, the interior is just as good.

Hello there folks! I received a message from Dan (Karate Dan?) on my blog and decided to register here to talk about my work on this mini! First of all I am very happy to read all the nice comments from you and other forums and blogs around the net! I gives me so much motivation to keep getting better and better at what I do! This project took me about 4 months to finish. I have a day job as a 3d artist at DICE in Stockholm, Sweden so the 4 months is not effective time though. Effective time might be 200-250 hours if that says anything to you If you have any questions regarding the build or me, please ask and I will try to answer as best as I can. You can also see my other projects on my blog www.bullfinch.se and on my portfolio at ezevisuals.com.

I had no idea virtual imagery had got anywhere near this good. What's the next project, and are you going to start a readers ride thread. I'd love to see progress shots of something been virtually built.

I think one of the major things that staggers me is not just the finish of the solid parts, like the bodypanels, lights and seats, but the physics of the harnesses. How they hang, even the slight curling of the strap ends. How would you even start to model that?

stealthstylz: Me and my gf have just bought an apartment so we are moving within the next month. I have decided to take a small break from everything 3d right now. But I have some projects in my head that I want to realize in the future. Some are new designs of classic vehicles and some are just crazy things hehe. vip: the straps start out simple and then I export to mudbox. Mudbox is really great for these organic kind of shapes! Thanks all once again! I will try to remember this forum when I start something new. It's hard to keep track of everything hehe. But you all can always check out my blog and I will soon start a facebook group where you can follow updates on the current stuff I do

I had stopped and was staring at the front indicator where's it's square on, something looked a little odd... then gave up on that thinking that it was a shame it was photographed with a digital camera rather than film and the color had saturated. I then got to the comment that "Wha?", scrolled back up and re-read.
I'm blown away by the detail. Absolutely am. Top work.

I have now updated the pictures on the blog and portfolio so that the tires are in the correct direction. It is hard for me to understand that people get so fooled over these images! Sometimes you get blind when staring at your own work for a long time.

I've been looking at these and trying to come up with something intelligent/helpful to say but I can't find the words. I simply have no concept of how this sort of thing is done but I do know I've never seen anything 'computerised' better than these images. And the concept is so cool too.

I too just went backwards and forwards through the images open mouthed.
What really tops this thread off for me is having the artist sign up and talk about the work on here.
As many have said, it's absolutely stunning and the best I have seen.
Inspirational.
