So in less than a week i've sold my E39 Alpina B10 V8 having promised not to buy another motor......... and this crops up for less than a grand. It would have been very wrong to resist! OK so it obviously needs some fettling (rusty arch/tailgate) but superficial stuff, the structure is sound. Paint looks to be nice and deep and it's not pink. Off to my trusty mechanic next week for a health check and full fluids change but seems to go well enough and lovely howl above 5k, reminds me of my old E28 528. I believe it had 193 brake standard. There never was an M Sport 328 from the factory but this is probably as close as you can get. Full M3 bodykit and fitted properly, previous owner was an Audi technician. Polybushed M3 suspension and M3 exhaust. Genuine 17" BBS split rims with decent non-Chinese rubber. Feels pretty pointy for a biggish barge, dogs would be flung about in the back judging by the grip. Funny little mirrors, the elec bit actually works but jeez this thing has a blindspot; i've already nearly wiped out a biker! Assuming all is well health wise i'm planning a leather interior as it's all low rent bogo standard at the moment. Has M3 steering wheel / gearknob. Unfortunately it's got the naffest headunit ever with a nasty chavtastic scrolling display that will not stop changing colour..... i'm tempted to smash it with a hammer. Think I might replace with a BMW professional unit keep it nice and factory. Anything else you fine people would do? M328 badging on the back? Induction kit? May go for a nice cheap (non-irish) numberplate. Some pics from the ad....... Hope you likey.

This is smart. E36's are becoming very tempting.

Chap selling had a few offers of swaps for E30's so maybe sorted E36's will be the next big thing...... his buying addiction was worse than mine. Two Golf's (one track prepped), 2 E30 convertibles, a Mk1 Fiesta pick up with flared metal arches and that's just the stuff in his workshop!
I guess nice E36's are getting pretty rare now.

They have so much to offer for the money. The build quality on BM's exceptional too. I'm not sure what it was that killed off the looks for the E36's for me, it might be the high numbers of them and too many poorly put together M3 reps. I don't think the E36 M3 had the presence like an E46 M3 does over its lesser models.
Saying all that though I'm really starting to like E36's, good one's are definitely rare now. Yours looks perfect.

I think the standard car was a bit bland only mildly more interesting to look at (but better to drive) than the average box of the time. Unlike the E30 which was always markedly different to other stuff. BM's seem to go through a mid-life phase of being deeply uncool with the budget minded & old timers hanging onto them forever until the likes of us come across them. E36's are probably approaching that period of being less interesting to the badly bodging boy racers. All those poor cars that have been subjected to limo tint windows, huuuuuuge chrome wheels & boots full of bass speakers are hopefully being put out of their misery and finding their way to the great scrapper in the sky; think they've moved on to Audi TT's.

Looks good. I've been through 4 E36s. The M3 Cab I had is my most favourite car I've had to date.
The M52 was choked down to 192BHP to fit into the lower tax bracket in Germany. If you swap the earlier M50 intake on there you can release about 30ponies ;D

Just had a read up on a few Bimmer forums, looks like a no brainer mod. Thanks for the heads up..... now to have a look see if it's already been done!

find a "Dave F" induction kit and a 325 manifold... fit, remap and enjoy silly bhp/£ gains

That looks really good, love the wheels and M3 kit bits and pieces - looks like a factory M estate. I have a 328i SE E36 touring and it's a fantastic car, love them The M50 intake swap does make a good difference, haven't done it on mine as it's an auto so didn't really think it'd suit, but my brother in law has a Compact we fitted an M52 into, and now with the M50 manifold etc. it goes very well indeed
