Given how much your average Deuche leaks during even a light shower - and here I speak from nearly 30 years of ownership experience - the idea of bodging one to make a boat is... interesting... ;D

Seemed like a bit of a hero at first but after reading the story behind it he seems like a bit of a pleb. After reading about the boat thing too I can't help but think he does this sort of thing for attention seeking/money making purposes rather than to get himself out of desperate situations

I'm very suspicious! Looks far too good to have been bodged together in the desert! I'll vote for art project as said... Anyway, from my rusty French and google translate, it looks like he just smashed one front wheel on a rock, breaking the steering arm. If you're stuck like that in a desert, you'd just bodge the steering together, locking that driveshaft if it couldn't drive that wheel. Worst case, you weight up the opposite corner and drive on 3 wheels  From my banger days, I've seen cars that'll move more than adequately with all four wheels pointing in different directions, or even a Princess quite happily dragging it's  having lost its rear subframe ;D |

as above i call BS on this. There was a bonnet he could have ripped off and wedged under the broken corner, all manner of ways it could have been easily bodged rather than spend the time doing this.
Photoshopped pictures, and the other ones - he seems to have had time whilst in his survival situation to take a number of photos of the work in progress.

Never mind using the bonnet, why not just build a basic trailer to pull your tools/supplies

He gets turned away from an off limits area so he sneaks in anyway. That way he doesn't have to worry about other travellers upsetting his plans and rescuing him. However to be sure he's not at risk he has enough water to last him 12 days of manual labour and only 1 mile away from a town. Just happens to have a car that is adaptable and tools to allow substancial modifications that are far beyond what would be needed to simply get the car running for the 1 mile back to town. Call me a cynic but stinks of "I'm going to make myself famous" with associated book / film rights setting him up for life. It's be interesting to know more - how long has he had the 2CV, what work has he done on it before, was it modified for desert use, why carry so much water when stupid enough to venture into an off limts area in a unsuitable vehicle, what is his profession, how long has he been in the area, has he done similar stunts before etc etc etc. Also I notice from the picture showing the 2CV shell that there doesn't seem to be any rocks around so he must have struggled to find one big enough to do the damage ! He coudl have easilly walked back to a comfy bed in the town every night and back to the car the next day to complete the project  Paul h |

Paul h Yeah and it's not like parts for 2CVs are likely to be thin on the ground given that that part of the world used to belong to France. Either drive it into town on three wheels or walk in and buy the parts you need. |
