Fantastic Bozwell.
I drove down to the Concorso last weekend and saw this in the flesh. I didn't know it was the same one but it did register in the back of my mind it looked familiar.
Fantastic car a fitting location for it's first public outing.

Love the title to this thread - like restoring a GT40 is no big deal. . .

That is the nicest period looking gt40 ive ever seen much nicer without the racing livery IMO really a credit to you . i would have to disagree with you on that as i think this is one of the few cars where stripes work and i quite like the paint colour it had before being restored. but it still fantastic which ever way you look at it,and the wheels really suit it

Do you do all the lot Bozwell so refurbishing the mechanical bits etc, or is there a team on it? the gearbox was sent to a specialist to refresh, the shocks were sent to another specialist to referb and both were told under no circumstances to make them look like new. the servos went to America to refresh as they were exchange only in the UK and being dated '67 we wanted to keep the correct bits with the car. the engine we got someone in to give me a hand as there wasn't enough time for me to get everything done before the first event. so yes apart from the painting and above i did everything. i stripped the car completely myself bagging every nut and bolt and photographing everything before setting about refreshing all the suspension, brakes, hubs etc. i rebuilt all the electrical components and cleaned everything without resorting to painting them unless they were really bad. we wanted to keep as much of the original stuff as possible plus leave a lot of the mechanical stuff looking its age. being there are loads of original GT40s still out there bearings, brake seals etc are quite easy to get hold of. apart from getting some help to move the engine and gearbox into place i screwed the whole thing together from a bare shell to the complete car. That is the nicest period looking gt40 ive ever seen much nicer without the racing livery IMO really a credit to you . cheers. i'm quite proud of the acheivment I would have to disagree with you on that as I think this is one of the few cars where stripes work and I quite like the paint colour it had before being restored. but it still fantastic which ever way you look at it,and the wheels really suit it we were thinking the same and couldn't imagine it a single colour let alone Burgundy. but it looks fantastic in the flesh, it is a stunner. as there are plenty of GT40s with stripes it does become the norm so to see one without stripes really stands out. probably why it has been invited to all these major events and will be 'popping' over to America for a few more next year

Ah right, kept meaning to ask but forgot before. Amazing effort.
Stripes wouldn't suit it. It's perfect as it is especially in that colour, shows off how beautiful the original lines were. Kind of like how pretty the original unarched Cobras look, when they were pretty rather than purposeful.

Thanks for the extra pictures. It looked spot on in burgundy at Windsor. A few people didn't recognise it at first not being in Gulf or Ford colours. ;D
