Hello everyone! My name is Ashley, I'm 24 and from Kingston Upon Hull, East Yorkshire. I'm a class 1 HGV driver and do mainly long distance European work. I currently work for a firm based in Aarhus in Denmark working regular runs into and all over Sweden. I often spend 8 - 10 weeks away travelling, then come home for 2 or 3 weeks then go back to work again. I currently own two motorcycles and two cars; * 1990 Peugeot 309 1.3 Style - Owned since October '08 and normally my daily driver. Currently parked in the office car park at work in Aahus. Will be fetching this back to the UK soon to begin a complete strip down and full restoration. (Mileage 87,000 miles)

1986 125cc Minsk And last but not least, my Minsk. My bike was first registered by a chap in Healing, Grimsby, North Lincolnshire, in June 1987. It was used untill June 1990 having covered 2,500 miles, when he decided to remove the cylinder head to de-coke it. For some strange and unclear reason, this never got done, and the bike sat in his garage, untouched, under a tarpaulin sheet untill 2011. The owner, now retired for some years with failing eye sight decided to clear his garage out with the help of his neighbour, a chap called John. He found the old Minsk exactly where he left it 21 years ago & was going to let the next passing gypo or rag & bone man take it away. John stepped in & said the bike is far too good to scrap like that & offered to sell it on eBay for him. After having it explained to him exactly what eBay was, the elderly owner agreed. I was the second bidder and won. My priority here is recomissioning, and later restoration. As far as I am aware there are currently only either 2 or possibly 3 Minsks registered with the DVLA in the UK and they are all on SORN. I'm hoping to get mine through test soon (its very nearly ready!) and have the only example of a Minsk on the road in the UK. (Mileage - 2500 miles)

Ashley, Props to being from 'Ull, my mam is a Hull lass. Best fish and chips in the world. Hansons - for Fish and Chip affectionados it's here - maps.google.ca/maps?q=New+Bridge+Road,+Hull,+United+Kingdom&hl=en&ll=53.75234,-0.308089&spn=0.014261,0.042272&sll=53.775754,-0.280323&sspn=0.028505,0.084543&oq=new+bridge+road,+&t=m&gl=ca&hnear=New+Bridge+Rd,+Hull,+United+Kingdom&z=15&layer=c&cbll=53.752492,-0.308019&panoid=bRbv1xl_p6hF-gxA12zv_g&cbp=12,51.99,,0,10.51 Looks like the grottiest, nastiest establishment ever, HOWEVER, it serves BY FAR, the best fish and chips you will ever eat, of that I am sure of and I have eaten at some of the greats... Mr.T's in Southwold ...Maryondale in RHB (so long as you're not a tourist ) anyway, I digress, many seriously fond memories of Hull, a rather undeveloped harbourfront and the smell of the fish smokers (now since gone?) I digress! The 205 looks incredibly clean! Good score for 25 quid as for the Minsk...wow. Is it a Soviet copy of something else? More details on that would be great As ever...we'd love to know your plans for them all!

Aaaah, good old New Bridge Road. I know the area fairly well. I used to live on Garden Village on the opposite side of Holderness Road. I'm a big fan of my fish & chips & my favorite local is Chalis' on Hessle Road, about a 10min walk from where I live. When I'm working away I start having withdrawl symptoms through lack of fish & chips & they are just about the only thing I miss from the UK! The 205 is really as clean as it looks, it's never been welded in its life. I've managed to get a copy of the entire history file on this car from the DVLA and it was apparently purchased new by a doctor in the Bournemouth area and he owned it for 8 years. The biggest issue I've had with the car was that there was no key (the car was unlocked). I thought I was going to have a nightmare of a time sourcing a new lock set, but after speaking to a seriously good local locksmith, he had a special tool for exactly this type of job & created a new set of keys by inserting a probe into the drivers door lock. For this service and the cutting of 2 keys the cost came to just under £50 inc VAT which is far cheaper than a new lock set + the faffing around fitting it.

.....as for the Minsk...wow. Is it a Soviet copy of something else? More details on that would be great The Minsk uses an engine which was designed AND had been in production since WWII so by the time it made its way to the UK in the mid - late '70s it was very out of place & a step backwards 20 years technologically compared to the Triumphs & Hondas etc that where new at the time. I'm not a particularly big bike person if I'm honest and my cars tend to take priority when I'm spending £££'s, but the fact I have single handedly brought it back to life after 21 years layed up and the thought that if I get it through an MOT I will have the only one on the road in the UK has given me a big push to crack on with this project recently. 309ownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php/6435-Minsk-123cc

Yes it has power steering. Very light and smooth. ;D Strangely enough, my 309 which is just over a year newer, does not have PAS

Thanks Mike! Great to be here! I'm very much looking foward to getting the 205 back on the road soon (just one or two minor electrical niggles to sort before it's ready for test) and driving it daily & getting to know it. It's hardly had a hard life covering just 54,000 miles but if I'm honest I prefer the 309 out of the two any day. The 309 has allways been a much underated car and almost forgotten about in the shadow of the 205.

Hi all!!
I currently have some unexpected time off work at the moment so I thaught I'd sieze the opportunity and bring my 309 back home to the UK from Holland, where it's been parked for several months. For those of you who perhaps are not familiar with my thread on here, the story is is that I started a new job back in January this year in Denmark, not far from Aarhus. I went over with a friend who was also starting work with the same firm, and packed all of our things (3 months of clothes, tools etc etc). I flew home from Billund at the end of May to have a couple of weeks off at home & left the 309 in the long stay park there. Unfortunately, while I was home I was approached then harrassed, pleaded and begged to return to work for a Dutch firm I had been working for previously. I gave in & went back to work for them. The car was at Billund about 2 months before I had a weekend off. I flew from Amsterdam to Billund and drove it through the night into Germany and right over to Middelharnis, Holland, which is where our head office is. Again, the car had been there for 2 or 3 months until last week when I found myself home for two weeks. I went over on 2/11/12 as a foot passenger on the Hull - Rotterdam ferry & was kindly picked up by my boss who gave me a lift to his office. I collected the car and drove over to Amsterdam. I had previously booked a room at a B&B and stayed overnight there and had a fantastic time. I came back over on the Rotterdam - Hull ferry 5/11/12. I had several bags of dirty washing in the car, some tools and a box of ratchet & straps from work, however the UK border agency seemed to take a dislike to either me or the car and proceded to search the entire car - removing all of my things and also the rear seat and fuel tank sender caps (presumably to look in the tank & see if I was carrying drugs or anything), the spare wheel and both door cards. They found absolutely nothing illegal or dodgy and I made sure they put everything back again. To say I was p***ed off would be an understatement. Anyways, the car is home now and I've began to strip it down.........

A few pics before starting to strip - Both rear wheel arches are just begining to bubble. Nothing drastic. The pic of the passengers side rear make it look better that it is. Back in 2008 my then girlfriend had a slight bump in my 309 in the ice. She was only doing around 15mph around a right hand bend, but there was some bad black ice on the road and she lost the back end and swiped a parked car. She was a bit shaken but ok, the damage to the car was limited to the passengers side rear corner and wasn't that bad. I replaced the rear light with one off ebay (which is why one rear light is slightly darker than the other). The paint however was a close but not perfect match and as a result that area is a little more 'orange' then 'red' and stands out slightly in the sun shine.

The front end is particularly tired so I started here. The bonnet is scrap but happilly I have another from a breakers yard (in silver) which is in mint condition and awaiting paint. The long strip pannel above the bumper is bubbling pretty badly but again, will be scrapped as I have another from eBay, conveniently in the correct colour and in mint condition. The front bumper was cracked by the previous owner who used to nudge the front wall of his garage each time he put the car away. This bumper will be scrapped and replaced by one I recently purchased from eBay which is mint, never been fitted / used and still has Peugeot Talbot stickers on the inside. The shiney reflective silver lining inside both headlights has begun to peel and both headlights will be replaced to brighten things up a bit.

With great trepidation I removed the drivers front wing and things where not as bad as I had expected. The inner wing is a little tatty but not that bad at all. The headlight pannel on the drivers side is very badly rotten. Suprisingly, the passengers side headlight pannel is in much better condition and so far seemingly escaping with some minor surface rust which won't take too much effort to clear up. Why one side has fared much better than the other is a mystery to me.......
