Hey guys, i've lurked on here for ages, 3 years maybe, rarely posting.
I own a '95 Mini Cooper which took me two years to build, and an '88 Scirocco as my daily!
Anyway, I was offered this 2cv about a year and half ago, i quickly went to collect it and stuffed it in my garage...
Its previous abode:
Who could resist?
It lived outside for a good few years, and was pushed/manhandled into the garage where it sat for about a decade. Dreams to fix it up never fulfilled. They were glad to see it gone.
I think it's an 88 or 87. Dunno yet.
In my clean-ish garage:
The engine was removed after it was pulled from the garage which it sat in.
At the time, i wasn't quite concerned about the chasis being completely rotten, or the fact the steering column had sheered off the rack....
Anyway, 2 the junk piled up around it.
So I've spent the past 5 days clearing up, and started stripping the car tonight to see what's left and decide if it's worth saving. I was hoping for some advice also!
Without further ado...
Seats out:
Crusty bits:
So yeah, it's pretty crusty around the edges, but what's very worrying it the collapsed chasis at the front has caused massive damage to the toeboard/footwells.
First off, the front:
what's left of the front bit of the chasis, curled up:
Passenger footwell /toeboard:
The driver's side is pretty similar, here's the steering column/rack disaster:
And how i left her:
Apologies for the shockingly grainy photos, i've got my proper camera charging for future events.
I've started unbolting the shell from the chasis, but i'm wondering if this is the best idea? the collapsed chasis might be giving what is left of the body some rigidity?
So should i just unbolt it, throw the chasis outside and started trying to put the shell back together?
I've also been looking at other 2cv projects, i'm very taken by the thought of a pickup or roof chop or both...
Ideas? Thoughts? Comments?
PS the engine is on a pallet outside, covered up, it turns over, and hasn't seized, but i think a rebuild wouldn't hurt it.
