While searching ebay for nice cars I stumbled upon a nice Capri, without any rust, at a price I couldnt refuse A couple o texts later and a chat with my mate and I'm ready to go to collect it. Set off this morning in this from Carlisle: and was greeted with weather like this when we reached Newcastle: Joined the A1 after that and saw some nice retros: Tiny mini, big driver! The ford was proper clean though! but then we got near to Steves house and I had to map read Got to the house, looked over her, test drove her ( very badly! ) and paid the man and I was away! Went to fill the cars up and find the Manta had used up all its oil on the way down, Doh! Carried on along the way, stopping regularly to keep check of the cars. Taking more pictures of course: Got bored of straight A roads though, so came back the way we went, over Hartside pass And finally made it home in one piece! And that's the story today, on Day Zero! So here's the To Do list ive came up with today: - New Tyres - Weld up small holes from the trim - New wing mirrors - Fix headlights, only 2 work. - New Paint and a spruce up - Finish bedding the engine - 4 branch - bike carbs .James

Ian -How much are you wanting for the tyres? I need 4, preferably 2x60 and 2x55 profiles. Want it higher at the back discostu - I paid 1600 for it, but there is very little rust! only bits are cosmetic as the previous owner stripped it to a shell and sorted it out! orioncrazycarl - Bumperless FTW! I prefere the look of them minus the bumpers and I'm going to be welding up the mounts to clean it up a bit. gtmark3 - I think all the headlights should work, but iu cant get the two inner ones to come on. I think it might be a dicky switch, but I'm going to give the haynes book o lies a look later and find out how the should work! Anyway, first cuppa drank and its started to rain, so i'd best start making a plan rather than going mental and making mistakes! The shells too good for that to happen .James

It will either be the stalks, or under the bonnet bolted to the heater bubble there is a black box, its the relay for the main beams...they die with age

Cheers for the comments again everyone! Not much progress has been made recently. Busy trying to sell my Saxo, so when thats gone ill have some spending money! Been looking at colours though. Keeping it how it is now, white and black, but deciding on the white was tricky. I think I'm going to go with Ford Frozen White and not bother painting the bonnet properly as I'm going to have a go at making a fibre glass one. Ill keep the plug though and put pics up incase anyone else wants one ofcourse ;D thinking of paint I have a look round the car and chipped off some filler. None of it was especially deep except this bit that came off the front wing: Which lived here: BUT, as the previouse owner said, it was fine underneath. Top lad and its nice to have a honest guy selling a car for once Soon took the rust off and primered over it so that I knew what to expect when I come to bash it out this weekend at my parents house. On another note, Does anyone have any good/ bad experiences of these: TOYO 350'sThey are the top of my budget so any other recommendations would be much appreciated! .James

A Capri minus bumpers looks so good, whatever the condition. Looking forward to seeing how yours turns out.

had some fun today at the petrol station. Happily pumping away then i get splashed with petrol as the auto shut-off didn't work properly. Grabbed some of the tissues and gave the side a wipe and all the paint came with Silly primer Got home, sanded it flat so all the bad paint was off. Quick wet sand and primer and its all ok now... except my primer is sand coloured and I don't want bare metal on show for long! Looks abit 'desert storm' now with the patches of filler ;D .James

Listen for the gurgle. I've been shot with diesel so many times that I never trust the auto shut off. Soon as the filler gurgles, that's full.
Good work man. Keep the updates comin.

Been a few more eventfull days of retro car ownership! Starting from where i finished off last time, i managed to crack off all the exhaust putty from where the downpipe connects to the manifold, making the car sound like curse word and running down on power. I fixed it with more putty, but ill come onto that later. As a more long term fix for the caked up manifold, i ordered up a 4-2-1, new gaskets and studs, along with the tyres i'm yet to receive. With the car running again with the patched up exhaust me and my mate decided to go for a drive up hartside. Set off and pulled in at Penrith 15mins later to regroup to be greeted by smoke drifting out around the bonnet. Silly Gun Gum exhaust wrap had caught fire, so i poked off the smouldering remains with my pliers and then carried on our journey. The drive up was good, some sideways bends and some not, but plenty understeer off the craptastic front tyres. Run back down was the same aswell abit faster though, lots of braking which resulted in this: Two cars with on fire brakes! the smoke doesnt come out too well, but at least it wasnt blown up engines or a different sort of fire, so the extinguisher wasnt needed Decided to drive on the 200m to the nearest pub so we could have a drink and let the cars cool down. Decided to have dinner which was also very good and then carried on home/ Thats all for now anyway. Should get my tyres fitted this week so i can drive with confidence and i can add some more stuff to the list of things to buy: - New Tyres- Weld up small holes from the trim - New wing mirrors - Fix headlights, only 2 work. - New Paint and a spruce up - Finish bedding the engine - 4 branch- bike carbs - decent brake setup
