Now its prob a silly question to ask here, buy meh I'm currently car'less, i've had to break my Cappo as my heart wasnt really in it as it was a bit new, made my pennies back though and kept the engine and box. Now i've found this, right on budget, body is original and un welded, floorpan has had a few local repairs in the past. Kicker is theres no engine, though I may refer you back to the Cappo turbo lump I have in the garage. To be honest I think my minds made up, but i'd love some input and inspiration or even if you think i'm a fool! Can a 50's bubble be cool?

Yeah suzuki cappuccino, both cars weigh about the same so performance should be similar to the cappo.
I think its a win win situation, I just don't want it to end up looking twee...

Dude, hold out for a Jago or similar! It would be so cool!

Well i think the Standard 8 and 10 are cool little cars, but they never seem to have the power, even by 50s standards (so to speak). So you are simply 'evolving' the car into what is should have been, so i say get it ;D

IMO, it'd look less 'twee' in black... and I don't mean satin/matt. Gloss grey could be a winner too. Keep it simple, slight tap with the stick and some tuck reduction... The Cappuccino engine sounds a good idea, reasonable power and reliability in a solid shell. I doubt the diff would take much torque though!

These look dead cool anyway, adding Cappo power will just make it all better. Some more shiny black bubble-ish inspiration:

Win win. Period touring car tweaks should cure the twee (which I don't see anyway) and a revvy three pot soundtrack should help the rest!
I'd roll that any day of the week.

I see what you're saying Rysz, to do a Jago would lose me over 8 points and mean major chassis mods, i'm scared I wouldn't get away with it.
I could drop the cappo engine in the 8 and enjoy, I mean 80 odd bhp over the originak 30 something should at least make it usable daily...

Do it. Because then you'd have a Suzuki Cappucino-powered Standard 8, and how cool is that? Wide steels, door roundels, leather bonnet straps for that period racing vibe. I can't find any pictures of racing Standards so look to the Austin A35, A50 or similar for inspiration.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

That plan is amazing! Do it!
I find it extremely amusing that you've scrapped a 1990s Japanese car due to rust and your replacement bodyshell is a 1950s British car with less rust!

It wasn't just the rust mate, I can deal with rust, In the end i just didn't have any love for it, its hard to repair something you now consider a lump of steel... On theplus side, i've said i'll buy it, just got to get her delivered now! She comes with an unfitted herald lump, so if I eye that up, an mot could soon follow and she might make the gathering, but I give no promises at all... Look at that rear, bootless

I love my 10 so my very biased view is that it is a good idea ;D
Ignoring rust problems and recent MOT failure, my main concerns are the horrendous lack of any power and the abundance of twee-ness. Glad to see you've gone for it ;D

I had an 8 many many years ago, mine had spitfire suspension, was painted purple with blacked out windows, large alloys on it (it ran 235's on the back I seem to recall) and had some tuning bits on the 1000cc lump so it went ok.
Mine had a single brake light in the centre so yours is either later or has been modded, i'm not an expert on these things, I was quite young when I had mine.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

Nice to see yet another one on here ;D
Really need to get the datsun sorted and get back on with mine although I can't decide which engine to shove in it. Its currently got a 1.8 bmw lump in there but it's going to be an ass to get it running or stick my ca18et lump in there. They go quite nicely with a herald engine in them and it pretty much drops straight in, i'm trying to find one for my dads one atm.

I love the look of these. They're more cheeky than twee, I always thought, especially when you have the chrome moustache fitted. Here's some pictures I found on the Googles.
