Not *actually* seen this yet, but it looks clean. The retired owner has assured me it's a good un, and it's always a thrill buying disasters online.
Going to pick it up in a couple of weeks, then the "plans" begin.
"Vitara, I shall un-gay you, and make you macho again"

I've had a couple, both ragtops. Don't rate 'em particularly highly as an all-purpose 4x4, but I do prefer them to SWB Fronteras and Maverick/Terranos. And with the top off and a nice windy remote road they're fun.
OTOH, had they stuck the V6 engine in the SWB Vitara with soft-top, I might have formed a different opinion!

So i have still not yet took delivery of the car, but have already bought something. Picked up a universal hub boss for the steering wheel. That 4 spoke plastic monstrosity looks like something for invalids. Not got a wheel yet, but i have some options in the mancave.

Don't fit anything too small, my mate has just bought a disco and fitted a 'racing' wheel, it's awful to steer!

It will be a decent size, fear not.
Just sent my brother to pick this up as his car is goosed and i'm stuck at work for the next few weeks. He seems happy is an understatement. I may have to fight to get this back off him when i get back...

(Cos that may work... fyi) ;D That sounds like an extremely rational ideal. One broken XL7 V6, one Vitara softtop, instant hilarity and guaranteed elk-test failure. I wonder if you could create a sport where you HAD to flip the car at the highest speed possible, then get points for how far it slid on its roof or side...

Update! So my brother has been utilising this almost exclusively since i bought it. I don't need it till winter, he killed his Focus. An agreement was reached whereby he had use f the car in exchange for basic maintenance and fault reporting. In that time we have... Discovered that it doesnt run well. This transpires to be a carb model. I had zero knowledge that Suzuki made these with Carbs! So with no knowlegde of the history i decided a basic service was needed. I puchased leads, plugs, dizcap and arm. Delivered to my brother, he fitted them and... no difference. As a result i have no doubt it is due to a ropey set-up carb, and a dose of carb cleaner will be on the prescription soon. My short visit to view it identified a few significant examples of surface rust, helpfully highlighted by the flat white paint. Easy sorted, and will keep me occupied over the next few month (reasons for THIS comment will become clear soon). I hate the stock steerign wheel, as mentioned. Had a generic 3 spoker lying around. 12 quids worth of boss kit and it was fitted: ...by my brother. I mentioned that there was no horn push and that i would order one. In the meantime he threw a temp measure on that i actually prefer much more than a proper centre push. I think its staying. This vehicle has to be a practical "go-to" machine, but with a bit of quirk to it too. One such side to this was some decent treaded tires: These should be capable of dealing with most issues the North of Scotland will throw at me. another bit of practicality was te need for a decent towbar. I got a fairly sturdy one from the evilBay, sans electrics. Will address that side of it once the Vitara has the pull to handle a load. At the moment its too stuttery... When it does have electrics, it will be paired with this: Local sourced, and pretty (very) cheap. Needs electrics and a bit of strengthening/corrosion proofing. Will be compatible with newly purchased Vitara towbar. Garage tools:increasing. Also, tempted to pimp the nuts out of it. Stanced trailer ftw.

No idea. Might be retrofitted? Had a good look, its deffo a solex or some horrific gashness. Might throw a 32/36 weber on it at some point next summer... or sooner if the clean out of the current one yields no success.

Yeah the carbs are pretty poor. An SU carb is the normal route as an upgrade just to give you another option!

I seen that manifold for 60 quid on eBay! (already researching as u may guess)
I automatically thought weber as its downdraft for downdraft and I could fab up an adapter plate fairly simply. That said, I do love a nice simple SU. It's like your dumb But harmless pal. No one knows why you like him cos he looks like a tit, but you still hang around with him anyway.
