Just picked this up today. The pain of letting me old '63 go to RA40tony on here has never gone away, so I thought it's time to fix it. Original 1600, Empi bucket seats, narrowed and lowered on Sprint Stars. I forgot how many people slow down for a look on the motorway when you're driving a Ghia! Not to sure about the roof rack so it might go. Apart from that the bonnet needs paint and there's a dent in the sill where the P.O caught a kerb. Aslo it's missing the front VW nose badge. cheapest I can find is around £100 though inc shipping. Think I'll leave that one for now! Also remind me not to rely the VW fuel gauge as I ran out 100 yards from home! ;D Pics...

Very nice. I had a look at the advert for that a few times. I want to get a ghia or a T34 next when the MGB goes up for sale later this year. did you get a good deal on it?

Quite a bit off the asking price and a load of Karmann Ghia parts as well. I'm not going to be as precious about this one as I was with the '63 though. I was scared to leave that anywhere. I've considered a T34 a few times. I just could never find a good one with a realistic price. They are much more refined than Type 1 Ghias though!

Nice one Steve!!!!
Looking good, bit more of a hotrod vibe to that one with the buckets and Grant wheel. What does it feel like to drive compared to the 63?
Too right about the T34's lovely cars, crazy prices.

Gorgeous, though I agree you should lose the roofrack. Its the one car my wife wants but you never see any in Ireland. As above, lots more pics please!

Such a nice shape, what's the idea behind narrowing? the front wheels do look mighty odd, like a normal car wearing spacesavers!

Too right about the T34's lovely cars, crazy prices. Hi tony I'd say performance is similar but having the 1600 box it can cruise at higher speed. Apart from that it's got discs at the front and the ride is equally as shocking as the '63! I'm happy now. It's taken me 2 years to be able to get one though! I'll get plenty more pics up shortly. The car is just in the carport having the bonnet redone as it had a huge bubble in the middle.

It was lower, but when your front number plate is torn off on a speedbump it's time to come up. Narrowing a big ting at the mo in the VW world. Obviously doesn't make it handle any better but you can get a bit lower without rubbing on the arches.

Not too bad but for kids over the age of about 8 it's not much good. I must add though that I've successfully (Not comfortably) travelled in the back of a Karmann Ghia for about 5 miles. And I'm 5ft11! I'm pretty sure people on the Karmann Ghia forum have fitted rear belts. There's also a generous amount of luggage space behind the rear seat which folds down, storage under the rear seat and of course in the front. Stock seats might give you a bit more legroom in the back.

Decided to go bare metal on the bonnet, just to make sure whatever made the old paint react doesn't happen again. After getting all the paint off I've decided to take the bonnet to a proper body shop. The car deserves that! I'm pleased that the bonnet is totally rust free though. Great as rust free bonnets for Ghias are fairly pricy.

That high shot with the two MX-5s looks great. Probably the best angle for a K-G, especially with that roof rack!
