So my next project is based on a scimitar chassis that I have had for about a year or so, its now in the garage.
My question is how strong is the axel as the motor I am thinking of useing has a mass of torque and a reasonable amount of power to go with it.
It will be hotrod ish, for now I will have to keep the axel for regestering it as a rebody but if it is not upto the job I will have to change it later on.
So how much power will it take.

well, the general figure that gets thrown around is: "they're good for 500Bhp"

Yeah they'll hack serious power, know of a few that have been holding up behind 400+ ft/lbs big blocks for years without trouble.

for the love of god, make sure the chassis is in tip-top condition before fitting that! The whole thing's only made from 2mm steel, which when made from perfect non-rotten steel, would struggle to stay in one piece at HALF that power level!
Given that most are 30+ years old, and live in the UK... there's not going to be much thick metal left on it

The chassis is in good condition but I will be I think regestering it and then making the chassis alot stronger to cope. My main worry was the rear axel which sounds like it will be fine

By the way, which year the Scimitar axle is? They changed from Salisbury 7HA to 4HA somewhere around the SE5/SE5a transition.

In any case, BIVA only really comes into play if you modify the chassis by removing material. If you add bracing, or a roll-cage, etc., surely that doesn't attract the attention of the authorities ?
