Another dumb Q, how big is 200sq ft?

Ive been offered a garage for £20 a week. Its 200 square feet, but how big is that? Is it the size of a single garage??

Sounds bigger than a single to me.

Does it have power and good security as I rent a single in Stoke-on-Trent for £8 a week from Moorlands Housing.

That's alot bigger than a standard lock up.

200sq ft is the size of our tat-unit (20x10). It only gives enough space for one motor, but even with a big car you are still left with a good couple of feet of storage / working area on all sides.

We pay £16.85 per week in a secure location for that.

Thanks for the info guys, Ive walked round to have a butchers and as you say its a bit larger than a normal single.

Its in Tunstall, about 2 mins from where I live in Stoke on Trent. The garage has a roller shutter and the compound its in has gates that are locked at night. I think theres power but I think ive got to pay for recconection. On top of the £20 ive got to pay rates as well seems a bit pricey to me. Its rented though an estate agent, thats where the moneys going to.

I just cant get a decent sized storage area/workshop for decent money. When I lived in Birmingham I rented a HUUGE disused warehouse with a mate for £20 a week each, had a massive yard too. I know I wont beable to get anything like that for that money anymore. I was hoping to get a couple of parking spaces to stick a car and my trailer in and atleast space for a couple of cars undercover to work on, so far though its eluded me

On the same compound as the garage though theres a large gate yard, space to store 30+ cars but its £50 if anyones interested in going halves

About 7 years ago I rented a workshop of about 500 sq/ft in Bournemouth which cost £50 a week so I'd guess £20 is about the going rate. I had to pay rates on that which added another £100 a month

I rent a old barn with power it has room for two cars and a nice big bench and loads of storage space.The rent is £80 month but i have to pay rates on it and it works out a £100 month.This is on a old farm and there are other units all sizes.Find out if you have to pay rates on the one you are looking at as i had a few probs with local council trying to sort it out.

I'm pretty sure I have to pay rates, but the guy I need to speak to is ALWAYS out. Ive noticed theres a garage with a roller shutter thats 750 sq ft, plus I could probably blag a parking space out the front. Doesnt say how much it is though.....

I need to get this situation sorted as ive got cars everywhere!

Ive spoken to the right guy now. Theres a 10 car yard, secure with gates but full of rubbish at the mo for £20 a week (don't know about the rates) and the 750sq feet unit is £40 a week, with rates of probably £10. Before I could ask more questions though the guy said the vendor is desperate to get some of his space rented out so they are flexible on the price. Thought I was suppost to barter the price down but anyway.

I visited the estate a year or so ago and since then many of the units have been vacated, id say most are now empty but of those nearly all of them are too big for me to afford. Now wonder they're desperate to get some tennants in.

I told "Ben" id have a think about it and ring him tomorrow, maybe we can work something out.

Your yard in birmingham must of been well cool! Bet it was big enough to get LOADS of cars in! :-) trouble is that lots of yards like that are in red light districts eh tim. no wonder it was so cheap. i wud of loved a yard like that you could store plenty of classics in there.

Sorry to Hijack, but anyone know of a large garage/workshop with power in the Bournemouth/Poole, or Farnborough/Camberley area?

I'm paying £150 a month for a double lockup with no power at a 'mates' car showroom, even more annoying is that you have to move about 5 cars to be able to get access to it.

Willing to pay up to £200 a month for a large place with power with room for a few cars!

It was in the red light district, Ladywood. Infact a few times as I opened the gates to let myself out at night id disturb a girl turning tricks with a punter in a knackered corolla or similar parked right outside. The road was very secluded. The looks on their faces! A few times I was even propesitioned by some scabby minger at the end of the road where I had to stop before I pulled out. Good job I always lock my doors!

The yard was fantastic though. Loads of room to doughnut old granadas and jags about. Any cars that scrappers were destroyed by running them into steel girders sticking out of the ground. We even played automotive football with an old washing machine. Those were the days.......

Anyway, I MAY be going halves with a mate on the 750 sq ft garage but watch this space. Otherwise I'm paying £20 a week for a 10 car yard.
