1.8 zetec on bike carbs with some lairy cams and mild head work will see you in the 180bhp region. Wouldn't bother with the rover engines when zetecs are so reliable and readily available.

Well this is the thing, there are many Zetec powered B's out there, but ultimately a Zetec would have about the same power starting point as a T series? So if you were to apply those mods to a T series engine (NA mod bits for T's do seem to be a lot rarer mind) you'd end up surely at around the same sort of power figure as the Zetec? Then you wouldn't have to bother making a Type 9 fit in the B etc. Plus the T series is a reliable engine, and the Rover 420 donor cars are worth next to nothing Not that I'm knocking the Zetec at all, they're good engines. I think my thinking from when I originally made this thread is (for the B especially considering the bits that kinda follow on from the B series) why is the T series so overlooked when a fair amount of the hard work is done for you? I think its really the lack of aftermarket tuning bits for them which is what makes the Ford stuff an appealing alternative |
