I bought this about 2 months ago. on a whim, the wife doesnt know I have it yet, and I havent found a good time to tell her.........I'm working on a plausable 'excuse' to have bought it....anyway...... I bought it as a non runner but was told it ran really well. its low milage 20 thou on the broken speedo so cant be too bad can it? well it got delivered on a cold dark night to the front of my workshop, we pushed it off the back, and the steering wasnt too accurate (nor were the directions) the front of the truck kind of fell off the back (although I didnt notice at first) as it was a non runner it needed pushing / towing toward the barn door - easier said than done with a 3 ton truck. my poor daily mazda cooked it's clutch trying to haul it up to the door. We left it be for a few days until I could get some batteries for it (24 volt) we tinkered with it for a while, checked the fluids etc, tapped the points and it started fine. it was running a 'gravity fuel tank' straight into the carb as the fuel tanks and lines were all rusted. it used a pint of petrol per 200ft!! a few photos of the first week in my ownership. I have managed to get a few jobs done since it arrived. I removed the broken windscreen, stsrted to strip the cab, removed the rear load bed, rotten wood as well, removed all nests and animal living quarters, changed the carb, put in duel lines, rigged up a jerry can fuel tank, removed doors etc. basically a strip down to see how bad it is. ( it is VERY rusty in the cab, but every where else is spot on. I found a very nice chap called Al who had a load of parts available so I now have a good few bits to put on - it has no brakes which I need to sort out next. My overall plan is to add a rear bench section to the cab so it can be used by more than two people at a time, and then to make a fold out camper section on the back = like a fold out trailer tent sort of thing. it will be used as an offroad toy mostly with the odd weekend of local camping. I have some 44" tyres to fit on and will work the rest out as and when I can. I only get to work on it a few hours on a saturday so progress is not lighting fast, but I am motivated, so hope to have major progress by the spring. the next update will have a load of cab resto photos, and a couple of videos of it smoking round the farm yard.

A quick update...... the rear load bed has been removed. - that was rather heavy!! the cab panels are removed, so its a bare skeleton, ordered some new steel today to make a new one. bought some rather large tyres too (large to me anyway)........ transit van for scale making progress in collecting parts, will need to make a load of bits up forthe cab, and still deciding how to make it. also need to get hold of a trailer tent thing to modify and fit into a purpose made sectionon the rear plan it to get the rover out of the barn and move to round the back, get the mog in and take the cab off inside so I can put new engine in and jig the cab up. lots and lots of weldiong the cab over xmas break. more photos of it so far....... hope you like it.

You Sir, are a legend! I love the 'Mog! What size are the original tyres? I'm after some 9.00x20 tyres for my truck. Looking forward to watching this thread! Oz

Oz the original nato tyres are 10.5 r24 which makes then stand fairly tall, the new ones are the same but the tread pattern makes them look bigger. I picked up the steel I need to make the new cab today, on Sunday I took the sheet steel off and the main side box section is rotten, so more work needed, but its not too much of a problem. I hope to do the new cab in January, as I have other commitments during December.

for those of you on bated breath waiting to hear of my woes at telling the wife, well...........
I still have use of all of my body apendages , and the reaction was really rather 'dull'. I think she is so used to me doing this sort of thing that an old army truck was inevitable at some point. I sold it to her as a cheap to own vehicle - good for offroading and the odd camping trip out with the nipper, she of course would not have to attend and could simply remain at home - just how she likes it.
A little unimog update, I am clearing the space in the workshop by slinging out the rover so I can fit this bad boy in, so by the end of january I can make a real start on manufacturing the new cab and getting all the new parts on.
happy new year etc

Cool Unimog man, well done on the explanation to herself as well! Looking forward to more updates, these are pretty damn cool machines - seen an offroad one a few years ago and was well impressed with the adult Tonka-ness of the whole thing

That is a nice bit of machinery. What powerplant has she? I'd love something big like a 'mog to play with, would need to invest in some serious big tools for working on her though
Nice find and good luck with her
