curse word it Just been to pick my gearbox up so i could put it in the metro this weekend (one weekend late allredy!). Phoned them up before i left to check it was done. "Yes its ready" was the reply (finaly!) so i drove down to pick it up. I get there to be met with "Oh its still on the bench...... Oh and the idler gear hasnt turned up so il have to send you that later. Ok?"!!! WHAT? Now as you can imagine that curse word me off somewhat as id expecialy taken a day off work to go and get it in time for this weekend and they said it would be ready when i phoned up to check only an hour or 2 earlyer! After a few seconds of stunned silence i thought it better not to fly off the handle at them as it wasnt going to solve the problem. So i drove home with the useless gearbox anyway, get home and just about to get it out the car when i notice the curse word has built it in a A-Series case!!!! This is after i specificly told them it was for a A+ Metro Turbo many times! This effectivly means it wont fit my car as the idler gear bearing is the wrong size and i cant just stick an a-series transfer case on there cous it wont have the metro engine mounting points! They have right royaly curse word me over What do i do? ask for my money back? get them to rebuild it in the right case? Avonbar are official totaly curse word useless!

Once you deposit the gearbag on the counter through the window, you'll find that they will take you very seriously and listen to what you have to say very carefully. ( Helps if there is a piece of scalp attached to the housing from their service manager ;-) )

Sometimes it ain't just price/closeness/convenience that matters when you're spending your hard earned to get things done. There's a BX place near my Mum's, went there a couple of times, had some work done (no complaints), but the guy running it was a total , and wasted my time when I went to get some spares. So now I head off to the excellent Edwards & Sons in the wilds of Essex, always helpful, always ready to give advice, and always have at least three of everything in stock. ;D EDIT: You can type , if you put a comma after it

Breach of contract. You asked for specific goods, they haven't supplied them, therefore the contract is breached and your money comes back. Unless they agree to supply the correct goods and you're happy to wait (and continue to deal with them). Not to mention the fact that under the sale of goods act they have to supply the correct goods in a reasonable time anyway. Everyone, take note: When you order anything or take a car to get work done, make sure you agree the timescale in advance and detail exactly what it is you want, and get it in writing, together with a quote. If my little bro had done this we wouldn't be messing about taking Mr Nigel P Sycamore of Acton Place Industrial Estate, Sudbury, Suffolk, to court. ;D

It never ceases to amaze me how many thick people there are out there - some of them unfortunately masquerading as experts.
Speak politely to the chimp that cocked it all up and see if you can get any sense out of it. You might be lucky and it will understand you second time around.

Yeh i must admit the main reason i went with them was they are not too far away. I allways thought they had a good rep but maybe not for this kind of work!
If he wont put it right then i will build the box myself. I only asked them to do it to save me some hassle but it has ended up creating loads like usual!

Maybe you should get your money back and build the box yourself as you've done loads of hard work on the car yourself. Also if he's built it up into the wrong casing what other stupid mistakes has he done, you never know.If you take as much care and attention to detail with the box as you did the engine you should'nt have any trouble.

its the most annoying thing to pay money for a job to be done by others to make life easier & in the end it doubles the workload, you always have a sence of paranoia if the job is done to your satisfaction after, like there could be a sabotaged part in there somewhere arrrrhhh!
if you need the gearbox sorting let me know & i'll pass a name to you, i've heard from a few he's very good, i presume you'll probobly end up doing the gearbox youself if you have no joy with avonbar

yeah I agree with Jonny, breach of contract etc. you can always phone BBC Manchester radios Alan Beswick, he's good at advice, be sure to warn us so www.bbc.co.uk/manchester/content/articles/2006/03/31/bbc_radio_manchester_biog_allan_beswick_feature.shtmlwe can tune in. Its annoying, a bit like the case with JonnySierras brothers restoration work, there you are handing over your life saving for a purchase you have sweated and deliberated over, then researched to hell so you determine what you want then the faceless company don't even give a fugg when you hand over your hard earned £,£££.££ over and barely even give you credit, or recognise you as even a profit margin, more a timewaster and ignore your several specific requests. yep it sucks. happened to me loads of time always on the biggest, a £2000. knackered used camcorder, and a very wrongly specced (wrong size everything inc frame) BSX bike @ £850, cant imge teir profits sending full bikes back and forth from cornwall-manchester! We defo need a good, bad and ugly thread on here... Go back and calmly tell em they supplied wrong item and wasted time money travel etc, if they fugg you about take action IMO

If someone messed me around like that I wouldn't give them any more chances to mess me around again. Phone them up, explain clearly what your problems are, then drop all of these phrases into the conversation:
Not fit for purpose Breach of contract Trading standards Small claims court
To be honest, if they hear those and don't give you the money back, go straight to small claims court. Google for Money Claim Online and do it online for around £35...

Don't take a replacement unit. If the guy is as arsey as he seems to be, then how do you know that his work is up to scratch. As it has been already noted, if he can't get the right casing, what else may be wrong?
Combine that with lying to you over the phone and the delays you have encountered, I would simply go back, place the item on the counter and demand a refund.
Any reluctance on their part to comply with your request would be a sign for me to immediately contact the CAB and Watchdog, and then follow that up with a small claims action.
...But then again, I am the WORST person to have to deal with as a customer. I stay completely calm and even-voiced. I am incredibly succinct and maintain complete control of the situation.
