I have a Mk6 1.8si In panther black ... It being a 3 door I Think it worth holding onto.. However like all escorts around this age there is the issue with rust and mine no exception... However this Brings owning or restoring one to a big problem... Mine needs Sills Both side's Pattern outers are available and for a full sill's they are pretty good. But as it needs inners and Middle sections That are No longer available as ford has Zero In stock and I understand No pattern ones are available putting a car back to original spec without patching is Near impossible... which is such a shame as you can those panels for mk1,2,3,4 !! If you do decide to let it go then I could be interested (if cheap enough )

I was always in the understanding that the run out Escorts with the digital millimeter and black engine bay were the best of the Escorts made, they had just got it right then the Focus came out, If you want one get a W-51 plate model, they drive nicely too. Some say that the assembly/quality control guys at Ford had just finished their training for the upcoming Jaguar (Xjr?),and were let loose on the last couple of years of Escort production.......

I have owned mk2 mark3 mark4 and mark5, i owned a 1990 H mk5 i prefered this one to the facelift mk and the mk6. Out of all the escorts pre facelift mk5s seem to hold off rust pretty well arches don't rot out as bad. I had a 1.6ghia mk4 loved that car, heated mirrors and front screen, but it rotted its arches away . I have just returned to Ford ownership after several years away from them just bought a 2002 Mondeo for £500, i had to become a ford man again one day:)

For some time, I've had a hankering for an Escort, one of the very last Mk6s (for reasons I can't adequately explain). I know the last few were five-door Finesse models, sold in 2000, so X-reg. But how do I know how near to the end of production a car was made? Does anyone know what the chassis number of the very last one was? These are RR fodder right? I mean, they're Escorts for a start, and they are no later than 2000... I'll add a pic of a nice one later, my work PC doesn't like me searching for pictures of Escorts ;D I know of one for sale on the cheap.... ideal project! retrorides.proboards.com/threads/recent/174842

I'll never forget my metallic Aubergine Escort. Bought from a ford garage for £300 because there was something wrong with the acceleration. One HT lead later it ran like a dream.
Why I part ex'd it for an automatic Mitsubishi Carisma* I will never know and always regret.
*funny name for a car that has none.

I worked at a large car supermarket type place back in 2002/2003, not long after passing my test. Part time at first while doing my A-levels then full time. So at the time we were selling LOTS of late model Escort's. I had my white Fiesta as my daily car at the time but there was this one Escort in the lot I wanted so badly but couldn't afford. It was in that odd pearl colour they did, like this It was just a basic 1.4 3 door but man, I wanted that car so bad! But I love Estate's too, all Escort estates right the way though so one of those would be cool too!
