Seat Malaga is a 1st gen Ibiza with a boot. Both are descended from the Ritmo/Strada as already mentioned using the Fiat floorpan and most of the running gear - apart from a VAG/Porsche engine for the 1.2 and 1.5 versions. Not sure they ever put the 900cc Fiat lump in the Malaga.

Stradas, Ritmos, Malagas and Matra Ranchos are curse word?! Sorry, my brain does not compute this! Anyway, I'm away to fruitlessly hunt for a Hyundai Stellar.... WERE considered curse word! like stradas. my mums mate had one years ago and this is a story of how curse word it was considered: loaded the car up with my brother, sister, mum, her mate and me with mums mate driving. we left for our destination taking a 60mph road. suddenly as far as my memory goes she locks the brakes up and we skid in to the wrong lane. turns out the steering lock had randomly come on and luckily for us nothing was coming the other way or a 120mph closing speed would have wiped us out. but now, however, id have one at a snap. the quirky mk1 with the bizarre styling ticks all my boxes!

^ you got this thread perfectly. This isn't about curse word cars, its about cars that were considered curse word when new but by age or modification are now cool and sort after.

They are still out there- you just need to look a little harder. My Mk1 Ibiza Purchased off Ebay last September (£102!), its now my winter snotter. Base level 1500, its a hoot to drive and 40(ish)mpg. All I've done is clean it, repair the locks,MOT it & add a set of period slots. Come the Spring -it'll probably be for sale

Surley the ultimate car for this thread is the Estelle Rapid? Used to be the Joke to end all automotive Jokes, i was given a free one which looked smart and even started and ran, needed nothing, we drove it out onto the road and let the council take it away, a good mate left a T&T tidy fuel injected Rapid to rot in a front garden till he gave it away. NOW, find one for half sensible money, I dare ya! I'd love one! Then: Now:

I thought it only fair to point out that when I posted that picture of a vectra I hadn't intended to picture the car of any member here just picked a random pic from google. No offence was intended but I apologise if I caused any. None at all the one you found isnt mine but the vec isnt currently held in any great regard, its just a rep mobile and cheap runner now for most. But I think theres certain styling points that will eventually (when most are gone) mean that it will be looked back on as fondly as the cav and novas are now. And one day it will be retro too lol.

is the seat malaga based on a fiat regata? I know fiat and seat shared cars (marbella-panda etc) and looks remarkably similar ;D there was a fiat regata local to me but it went a while ago was tatty as hell, mismatched wheels, and badly painted 2 tone yet something about it made me want it. It can trace it's lineage back to the Fiat Ritmo/Strada (the doors are the giveaway): Like most SEATs of the era, the Strada was licenced-produced in Spain by SEAT as the SEAT Ritmo between 1979 and 1982: It was facelifted in 1982, becoming the SEAT Ronda: The Malaga was a saloon derived from the Ronda, which first went on sale in 1985. It mirrored what Fiat did with the Strada to produce the Regata, but they were actually totally separate developments from the same base car (SEAT having severed their ties with Fiat in 1982 following a financial dispute). in ireland we had fiat ritmo but the sporty one's 105tc and 130tc were badged fiat strada
