Hey all I decided to start up a proper thread after interest in my interior trim work in another thread. Bit about myself, I'm sean and I'm 23. I've always been fascinated about car interiors and the craft. I find every aspect about cars amazing but interiors is growing into a serious passion. I believe in the 'give it a go' way of doing things and since first doing a few bits in my old corsa I've not stopped trimming. I'm by no means a pro as I'm purely self taught but as with every single automotive upholsterer I learn something new on each job. I'm willing to have a go at most stuff but I most certainly won't go and do something that's out of my depth. I'm currently trying to find the correct sewing machine to do car interiors and until then I can't do seats or any proper leather work. I could have a go on my current machine but the work would not be up to the standard which simply is not good enough. Only the best will do. Please just pm me if you have an enquiry. Enjoy the pictures. Audi a3 8p interior in jazzberry vinyl More to follow ....

Looks good!
Are you interested in doing an old Raid steering wheel, similar to the Mountney?
PM me if you like.

Sean, I'm well impressed with your work. Top marks mate. Are you telling me you do the stitching on the steering wheels by hand?

Steering wheel in basic is a strip of leather with a stitch at either edge running around the wheel. These two stitches when they butt up against each other on the inside diameter is then hand sewn. So yeah it's machine sewn which takes about 2 mins but the rest is done by hand which took me around 2 hours.
Stevecrx - yeah I'm interested. Ill pm you ASAP. Just in the middle of trimming as we speak. Cheers

Well done, I have tried this in the past , the most exciting sewing catastrophe was a soft top for my BMW e21 Baur , followed by a samba. To do neatness on a small scale like you have done is a real skill indeed..... Well done!

That gear knob and the triangles on the Audi were very hard on the sewing machine. Got there in the end though.
Cheers

An industrial walking foot. To be efficient some trimmers have two. A single needle and a double needle for the twin stitch seams.

Nice work you've done there. Could i have a price for doing this in black leather if your interested? I've got 2 of them so might get you to do both? The other is in better condition but both would be freshly painted.

I'm very impressed by the standard of your work - it is excellent and looks 'factory'. I'm a long way off time-wise, but I'm flirting with extra leather in my Jag. I'll favourite this thread on my computer. David
