The good thing is that if you get stuck for money, you can just go rob Macaulay Culkin's house.

Live update from Area 52: after a shed load of manpower, a belly full of huffing & puffing from everyone and some delicate manoeuvring, the Dodge is in its new home for the next few months. Last night, James even got it running although the carb for the 3.7 straight six is, in his professional opinion, completely borked. I guess this means the best course of action is to replace the lot with a lovely burbling V8. Something around 5.9 litres of Detroit iron will do I reckon?

So it was a busy weekend down at the unit and I didn't take anwhere near as many photos as I had planned....but here are a few that I took on the Friday night: As soon as the A52 guys started arriving, the doors & bonnet to the Dodge were constantly open as people wanted to see more of the van... The Dodge kinda swamped all the other vehicles in the yard. It does seem to have a habit of doing that! When enough people had arrived I announced it was time to have a go at pushing the monster into the unit. James piped up and declared, "I reckon it'll be easier to get the engine running and drive it in". Challenge accepted...we all know how much James loves reviving old engines. He and Dave set about removing the engine cover.... James then set to work tracing what fuel pipe went where and what vacuum pipe did what. There's a LOT of van pipes and other unknown 'things' thanks to the US smog spec carb! Beer in hand, James gradually worked out what went where and after some jiggling & clearing of pipes and the addition of a temporary fuel supply courtesy of a 500ml gearbox oil bottle, the engine fired into life! There were lots of cheers and high fives as James had successfully managed to revive *another* engine! It had taken the additional help of Dave's Volvo on battery jumping duties, some easy start and some high pressure air blown down a fuel pipe to clear a blockage, but it got there in the end. Complete with an eery glow of light eminating from the engine bay Unfortunately, with the tiny temporary fuel tank, a dead fuel pump and a borked carb, it was deemed too difficult to keep the engine running long enough to attempt to drive it, let alone manoeuvre it into the unit and into its very tight space. Instead, we prepared ourselves for some heavy duty pushing, shoving and heaving. Photos to come of that little saga!

I hope to get some time to start some progress on this over the weekend - mainly just pulling things apart and sussing out a plan of action. I'm also waiting on some pics from Dave (Butterz) which he took over the weekend it arrived at the unit. There are some crackers that he took so I can't wait to post them up! In the meantime, here are some of the traveller fuel pump set-up! The original pump was completely FUBAR...not even a hint of life to it, so that was removed and binned. A quick rummage in the racking revealed an old SU fuel pump which James proceeded to strip and rebuild because it was looking a bit shonky. Once he'd bolted it all back together, I robbed a clamp from a spare coil and fitted it in the engine bay: After the previous nights amusing discovery of the blocked fuel pipe, I made sure all these pipes were clear and able to deliver some fuel to the pump and engine. Fuel delivery courtesy of a 5 litre fuel can with a hole drilled into it. That'll do for now! Because I was busy engaging the starter (which has to be done manually thanks to a dodgy solenoid) I hadn't realised I wasn't recording until after we got the engine started. But here is a rather grainy video to prove it does run - although the choke is shot so it doesn't idle when cold. Sounds quite good though....

Pics are in the DropBox folder dude! Thanks Dude....got them! And here they are, some pics that Dave took of us all giving ourselves a hernia!! How wide is the Dodge? Wide enough for seven people across to push it into the unit... The hardest part, pushing it up the last bit of the slope. Arms and legs were burning by this point. With this many people, pushing cars in is usually a breeze. Not the Dodge. IN! But how big?? Time to clear some stuff out of the way... Round 2 of the pushing and shoving. It's on the flat, so a little easier, but it still weighs a hell of a lot Easing it back into its new space Damn! Looks like the flammibles cabinet will have to come off the wall. Everyone take note: lock all flammible liquids away before Hardcore next arrives... The final push! Another one of Daves shots, but this jsut sums up the Dodge for me. Sums it up perfectly..... ....I guess this does too!
