What is the issue with springs, heavier spring rate for the diesel variant hard to find ? Also, take the plastic sill trims on and inspect for rust.. Yes seem to be a heavier rating, and thanks for the sill tip, mine is pretty much mint but will re inspect and clean any rust cheers!

Interesting, there seem to be loads of different lowering spring kits on eBay, 'suitable for C230-C250' etc, but I've no personal experience, be good to see some after photos here though!
Lie underneath and check the jacking points, the plastic lifting point thing directly underneath the spare wheel jacking point is where it starts, if it's solid there you're fine. But still waxoil.. lol

Mercedes have made this a black art. They have a system of points for each engine variant and optional extras. The total number of points determines the stiffness of the spring your car needs. That's why ordering new springs at Mercedes takes quite a bit of effort...
As for rust: I second hario. If the jacking points are good you should have a nice indication about the rest of your car. One advice though: check the brackets holding the front springs to the chassis VERY CAREFULLY. These tend to snap off resulting in all kinds of trouble and dangerousness.

The wife misses it already now she's her modern fiesta thing.....I'm keeping the keys firmly in my pocket this time

Had a bit a blat up the A2 tonight on the way from the caravan and as I came of the slip road near home the car had become noticibly louder, yep it has a sizeable hole in the front half of the exhaust......drove the last two miles home with the hump! Then when I got home I thought hell I've owned the car five years and the exhaust has lasted all that time so I can't be too fussy can I? Ordered a new section of the eBay place, need to get it fitted sharpish as I start a new job next week and need the car!

Ive made the firm decision not to lower the car, it drives so well and I'm in love with it more now than when I bought over 5 years ago, I need to buy another car to modify!

Got a good friend who has recently taken up spraying his work is good quality and he's taking the job on to do my minor paintwork issues, got a weeks holiday the week after next so it's going In for the light work , need to attend some of the owners club shows ,as there seems to be a bit of snobbery towards the W202 models, I hope my tongue in cheek wit will go down well.....!!!!!

What's the performance and MPG like?
Very very nice example you have there , had a C220 many years ago. I still haven't, 50 plus cars later found anything more comfortable.

At 128,000 miles she still pulls like a train and around 38 to the gallon,as I've said I've owned hundreds of cars in 30 years of driving but this car will never be sold, it's stayed in our ownership for six years and far more reliable than new cars that have come and gone....a future classic trust me!

Thanks for that, on the strength of your recommendation I have picked an elegance model with 101k, MB service history for most of that and with the exception of one blemish on the pass. door it is mint. My only grumble is the lag on pulling away, read up on some cures but I'm not sure it deserves having wires cut and resistors splicing in - the teenager is going to be a daily driver from next week. It definitely does need hitting with the lowering stick and some rimmage though! Thanks again for the write-up. Without it I may have overlooked a car that seems to wind up in the shadow of its larger sibling.

Mot this morning, flew through again with no advisories, the tester said it was a lovely clean car, nice to hear! Routine maintenance and looking after a car always pays off , something I learnt off my old man

Quite amusing.....retro rides for me every time! The car is twenty years old this year and still a joy to own A quick detail this morning with autofinesse products

That´s looking very nice indeed.
Chap over the road had one just like it, 2.2 Diesel engine that he´d chipped to approx 160 PS. The drivetrain was still running perfectly but the chassis and bodywork just rusted away round it. It looked like Swiss cheese by the time he (sadly) scrapped it in 2015, there was no way it was getting through the TüV.
Hope you continue to enjoy it!
