Wait, just looked at the pics again.. It's a 4cyl (doh!) so its a 2.3. Those engines really like boost ya know... Looks MUCH better with the new paint! You said problems with carb, what's it doing? Some electric fuel pumps can supply too much fuel, did that car originally have a mechanical pump?

its a 3.3 straight 6 mate, it has general problems starting from cold as the choke is not operational but I can live with that, the mechanical fuel pump was on its way out and would periodically stop supplying fuel which was what I thought the problem was, but it has done the same thing several times over the last few days, it will suddenly lose all power start coughing and spluttering and eventually die and like flicking a switch it'll suddenly be fine again, in the past it has taken 20 minutes to run again but now within a minute its ok and drives off fine.
I know it has the useless holley 1v carb so i think replacing it with something else is in order

New paint looks good, but those wheels completely missed the mark IMO.

as said the wheels aren't finished and suspension needs sorting yet

I'm prolly in the minority here but I like those wheels- just needs the ride height brought down so the tires fill out the 'wells and it'll look great.
Did Ford build it RHD or was it converted later? I'm always intrigued by RHD versions of otherwise familiar American cars.
Great job on the paint by the way.

Why am I thinking these were V6s? That or I did post after drinking...
Anyways, I've seen instances where the electric fuel pumps can put out too much pressure, IE, the mechanical one was 4-5PSI, the electric throws out 6-7 and you need a pressure regulator to fix things.
Anyways, that's probably not the case here as it's doing the same thing.
I'm thinking ignition.. that car should use a Duraspark setup, next time it does it and won't start try gently tapping the duraspark box, see if that does it. RockAuto probably has them for $10-20 but the shipping to the UK isn't cheap..

thanks mate, still got to paint the wheels and flat and polish the paint, but it is an absolute joy to cruise around in it now, the ride is so much better and way less bouncy and it runs like a dream at last

That looks pretty cool, and I usually hate those wheels but they seem to suit it really well.
