It would appear I've bought another 2 door Range Rover. Someone made me aware of a 2 door looking sorry for itself down in Leicester, I went to have a look last week and for some unknown reason I went back with a trailer this weekend and we dragged it back. I'm such a sucker for these things. It's fairly original other than the horrendous bull-bar, missing air con and electric windows. Someone has fitted some extra switches but I don't know what they do. Last on the road in 1998 I was mildly surprised that the brakes weren't seized on, I was even more surprised that after minimal poking and some new fuel I was able to start and then drive it up and down the farm track. A few photos This was first sight The moss is free Stopping for some refreshments on the way home Unloaded and then emptied some of the mental stuff left inside, wicker baskets and hand powered carpet cleaner being the highlights. Scrubs up OK I don't really know what my plans for this are, it needs new sills and new foot wells along with that bit of rot visible at the rear. The headlining needs to be replaced and it obviously needs respray along with all the wood veneer refurbing. Seats are passable but could do with new cloth. Oh, yeah, that bull bar is certainly going to be ditched. It's another rare Range Rover, called the In Vogue, explained here; www.range-rover-classic.com/Home/land-rover-brochures/range-rover-1980-s#TOC-1981-Range-Rover-in-Vogue---1st-Edition---VIN-AA---Released:-February-1981The odo reads 13090 miles, so I take that to either be very low or 131k miles, when I get some documents I can do some digging. Part of me think I should restore it to standard or as close as possible. On the other hand a 5 speed box, a little bit of a lift and some other subtle mods certainly appeal. If I keep this once it goes back on the road it will be to use for light greenlanes and general driving about and possibly main transport in the winter. There's unlikely to be any great progress this year, I'm half way through the restoration/modification of something slightly lower and smaller

I've allways wanted a 2 door rangey, sounds pretty rot free by landrover standards

If it IS a genuine In Vogue, then it really deserves to be accurately restored. They're very rare, and just the sort of model which collectors are going nuts for. Why not stick an overdrive on it? They don't fetch much for the LT95 box, and would be a lovely period optional extra. TOTALLY agree about the bull-bar though!

Restore it to standard! Don't turn it into a rat monstrosity or a mudplugger!

I absolutely love 2 door Range Rovers, a tax exempt V8 is very high on my list of wants. This looks like a great find and well worth restoring to original if it's as rare as misterbob says. Although I'd be tempted to repair and use as is

This one isn't tax exempt unfortunately Having been stood for 10 years the mechanical components will require a good overhaul too so it's going to get a proper restoration. misterbob: an overdrive is a good consideration, I'll keep my eyes out for one. It is an In Vogue, chassis number is correct as is the paint and interior, so as you correctly say it is collectible although not not quite as much as the CSK. David: it was never going to be turned into a "rat look" or a mud plugger, not my style with rarer stuff. A set of nice all terrains is all one of these needs to go most places anyway. I have plenty of time to build up a collection of replacement parts of the next year ready for the restoration

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPH...!!! An 'In Vogue' is a pretty rare beast so a standard spec' restoration would probably be the best course of action... Those 2-doors are bloody lovely and becoming rare in their own right so to have one of these special edition gems is a real prize I am most certainly going to be watching this one very closely indeed...!!!

Agree with the general consensus- too many 2- doors have been chopped up and/ or abused to death, any vaguely original and mostly solid survivor is worthy of at least a vaguely sympathetic restoration. An In Vogue most definitely is! Well saved Sir.

there's a genuine 70s K plate two door (as opposed to a four door K plate with a dodgy V5) in blue that I see drive round Stroud regularly!

Its great to see these getting some proper care and appreciation. They are a 100% bona fide lump of class, I could sit and look at a standard one for hours, specially one with the vertical grille slats. Its 2013 now, these are old and I cringe when I see yet another late 80’s Vogue on eBay that’s been made in into a half-arsed unfinished bobtail job by some fat idiot. More power to you!

what a lovely motor so rare but still gorgeous, with it in such good condition i would wana mess it up, i would get all the rust done waxoil the underneath with some colour on the arms, axles etc,
the outside i would paint it a original colour from that year or even the colour it should be, a 2 inch suspension lift and 256/75/16 AT tyres on modulars or wellers , will make it look classic and original but also will stand out

I bought a complete unit by mistake at an autojumble for £200, and didn't even make that on e-bay! Pity this post wasn't before Christmas! The 'In Vogue' is an important bit of history. Along with the Monteverdis, it was really the start of the RR climbing into luxury car territory. I've ALWAYS wanted a 2-door, and if this has a chance to be saved and restored to original spec then that's great news. I saw what you did with the CSK, which was great Bookmarking this one!

That's a helluva find. IIRC those picnic baskets were part of the original 'In Vogue' spec?

If you have chassis number would be interesting to compare, with my n vogue.I can't find out if they weremade in sequece ,or just a standard car pulled of the line when an order came in. Recommend looking under headlining I found original build ticket stuck to inside of the roof

What a beauty! The bullbat deserves to be thrown into the ground and burried. Looking forward to see this coming together.

I'll dig out the relevant number if you're interested. I have a photoshoot with it this weekend for the projects section of Land Rover Monthly, they want the CSK in the background and this in the foreground. The bullbar will be ground off before the shoot! I can't wait to get stuck in either but I'm still building the BGT at the moment! One car at a time
