This looks like a collection of clichès Totally disagree with you I'm afraid, I'd say the opposite. One-piece full-length doors, steering column and pedals extended to seat the driver in the back, side-hinged boot, mesh roof - show me another Golf like it, let alone enough examples to make any of it a cliché...

Edition 38 posted it on their Facebook this morning and there is an endless comment section full of unimaginative 22 year olds who all own identical mk4 golfs saying how awful it is. That alone forces me to love it long-time. It was built in two weekends by a bunch of Aussies for zero outlay. It's not really meant to be well-built or practical, it's just a bit of harmless fun. Although admittedly it would be better on 3 spokes for added hateism. edit: found another (very wide) pic:

Edition 38 posted it on their Facebook It amazes me how people can judge a car like this from anything other than a 'fun' angle. There's bits of stupid and bits of clever all over this build and it's all the better for it. Serious judgement is for serious cars. This is not a serious car.

I think its cars like this that are missing from most scenes. I've always been drawn to the "Nats special" style cars from the good old days of the N.A.S.C Nationals. Built for a laugh rather than to win a prize. Exactly this, and what others have said. I'm assuming from the photos that it's been built to take to a show and create a stir. Chop it, drive it to the show, everyone is all like OMGWTFetc, scrap it. It just looks really fun. And also there are some great ideas in there. If someone could do those doors for real, with glass and everything, it would look awesome.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

Built for a laugh rather than to win a prize. Nail on head. It's not even that they're missing in some scenes, just that people completely miss the point and judge them on irrelevant criteria - 'that will need strengthening', 'it's dangerous', 'it's fake', 'it doesn't have seat belts', 'won't go over speed bumps', 'looks silly', 'rather have shiny paint' . It's all about fun...FUN FUN FUN!

I like tatty cars, i like naturaly ratty cars, I don't like cars that have been ruined in the quest for 'rat-look'. This Golf tho. I like it. Not because its rat-look, but because of the total end result. It forms opinion and it made me smile and i sure havnt quite seen anything like it. The doors. Quality. Authough I wouldnt have chosen those wheels. They almost make it look like its trying to be 'scene' which spoils it imo. Id like to see some equaly rusty wire wheels or skanky looking banded steels.
It says to me, just for the hell of it, which is good enough.

I'd quite happily drive that into the RRG13 show field with huge grin on my face. I think if you take this type of car seriously then you are approaching it all wrong. This is a bit of fun, a 'camp site' car, more art than car.. Its clearly not meant for road use and probably done on a shoestring budget(and that's gone on the wheels!) I'd hazard a guess that the golf was a write-off/banger too! Well done the maker!

You've only got to look at the comments the window exit exhaust we put on the Prairie at RRG12 got to see that some people take car building too seriously. Must've heard and read "thats dangerous/it'll leak gases into the cabin/OMG nuns will die its held in with a ratchet strap" dozens of times.

I hate the "thats dangerous" comments with a passion. But i like cars that sorta flow, in any style, I'm not style nazi at all. I have preferences, but who doesnt. I also agree we shouldnt be too serious. I still think they ruined a golf, but yeah, they indeed did it to have fun. I have a question thou. Ive seen on FB people referring to the rust as fake. Is that paint? cause if so thats rather well done. Wont comment on the 'tina

I have seen rust-style paintjobs, but I suspect what you're hearing there is people referring to 'fake patina' in the sense of it being deliberately forced rather than being true patina. By which I mean that rather than waiting a few decades for the paint to wear away and the rust to work its way through, they've accelerated the process by, for example, stripping all the paint off with Nitromors and then weeing on the metal. Or something.

It's quite impressive that people manage to see this as serious after having seen the pedals and steering column extension! That actually made me laugh in front of the computer. Anyhow, how do you go and make a car look that rusty in two weekends

Do ya know what I'd like to see. One front wing absolutely mint, painted and highly polished. The rest the same.
