On my Rover 200 bubble the rear wiper comes on automatically if the front wipers are on and you put the car in reverse. Its a great idea in principal but Rover completely spoilt it by setting it up so that when the intermittant front wipers are on in a light drizzle it still happens and the rear wiper scrapes and jumps across the rear screen. The only way to turn it off is to turn off the front wipers while you reverse. GRRRRRRRRR

Not strictly a design fault but someone at ford thought it would be helpful to put the NSF lower arm pin in from the top so it hits the gearbox when you try and change the wishbone .

Maybe not such a design fault and more me being 6foot 5 is that I keep knocking the wiper on in the a4. Was fine in my old lupo but did scare people playing with heating while drifting into incoming traffic

On the Alfa GTV I had there were many of these sort of niggles. The one that always amused me was the sun visors contoured to follow the roof line when folded up When you folded them down there was a great big gap where the sun inevitably came through.
And the wonderfully long doors which were really thick meaning a cool sculptured door card and plenty of room for speakers, were impossible to get out of in carparks. You practically needed a space's width to open them.
The only real design 'fault', excluding the constant over engineering, I can find with the Lancia is that it has fixed position seat belts and the choke is quite a way under the dash, so I can't reach it without removing my belt....

boot access tends to be popular
on our mg zr mk2, the only way to get in the boot is to press the button on the fob, theres no button on the dash or lever next to the seat, so its a pain sometimes, if the battery in the fob dies access to the car is good using the key, but you cant get in the boot
years ago when I had classic mini's, when driving them you would never know if you left the boot open, unless you notice people behind flashing you

On my DAF when the belts are aproaching the limit of their adjustment reverse gear requires moving the seat back on its runners otherwise the lever would be in the middle of the seat thob.

Mondeo mk3 heated seat switch is in front of the gear lever so when i need to turn it off i cant see it or get to it easily while I'm driving.

Corsa b's (my speciality) - seats are bolted down via a small torx screw(locktited) that always is either butchered by previous owner or by yourself- they should od used a bolt or and allen key type bolt, frustrating when changing the seats- proper PITA

most annoyin ones in the Capri, the fuel sender sits right behind the rear wheel so gets covered in spray and the connections corrode, though they tend to die anyway, sunroof dran holes run into the sill...genius! the front chassie and rear chassis are not properly linkes, they both sink into the floor under the rear seats, totally stupid! why not link it properly like on escorts!! the sierra, the steering lock is utter rubbish so a road where the Capri would swing round the sierra wont, to change rear springs you need to either unbolt the halfshafts, which have torx heads for NO reason, they just rott and round, could have used normal bolts, or you have to drop the diff, though choppin them out is no problem you cant fold the rear seats forward from the seat side of the car, you have to do it from inside the boot, which is a pain!

on my integra type r theres a spoiler on it as standard, and it cuts right across your view in the rear view mirror, so you see sky, a bit of tarmac and a big white horizontal wedge of plastic. great car though. indeed this is really anoying had one myself it was the only piece of the car i not liked ;D

my dad had a couple of mk3 automatic fiesta's from new, and the wire that illuminated the gear selector to show what gear you were in was two short, so eventually it would become disconnected. it happened on two cars bought from new 3 years apart

On my fastback (see pic below) the rear boot release lever is mounted in the B pillar. This is the only way to open the rear boot and involves opening the door to get to the lever. Sounds bad enough but add to this the car was built in Germany so was designed for the left hand drive market meaning the lever is in the passenger side door jam.
As an extra bonus, if its snowing or frosty the spring on the boot lid isnt strong enough to lift it past the lock so it becomes a two person job to open the boot, one to work the lever and another to lift the boot lid.

K11 Micras are quite tricky to get fuel into because of the design of the pipe after the fuel cap. You perfect a technique of pulling the nozzle out slightly and rotating it clockwise about 45 degrees. And on the K10 the oil filler cap is easy to remove, but a complete female dog to put back on. I might have been seen literaly jumping on the engine to get it back on ;D ;D ;D The CE - you have to turn the ignition on to shut the sunroof. How many times did I have to turn it on again... They changed it later. Oh and the park brake pedal can hurt a bit when it snaps back if you pull the release and have your foot in the wrong place...

I have heard of an aston martin which when it's in park, you can't eject the CD from the player..... Haha, that happens with my dad's DB7! With the auto's you can't get a cassette out in park, and the same problems with manual's in 5th gear! No problems with CD's though, as the multi-changer thingy is in the boot, which I always thought was a little weird too.. Never seen a multi changer that wasn't in the boot... My dad has the V12 Vantage DB7 with a manual 6 speed box no problems involving the stereo and the gear lever, so they obviously sorted it by the time the V12 came in..... Mr Range Rover P38 has cunningly designed cupholders that launch your cup of whatever into the stereo everytime you brake hard, and even after nearly 8 years of ownership, i still find the electric window switches to be the wrong way rounds and back to front, so i alway wind the back windows down rather than the front ones up! Also whoever put the coil packs behind the inlet manifold wants stringing up and killing... My E39 530D tourer has cupholders that cunningly block all the heating controls when you put anything in them, also has the worlds heaviest boot floor and nothing to hold it up whilst you remove the spare wheel! My MX-5 mk2 is fairly vice free bar the stupid sun visors, and really awkward hood catches. My mk4 Golf GT TDI is awesome not a single niggle or vice, as close as I've got to a perfectly designed car, this is my third one and they've all been awesome

Hmmm..
Jaguar X300s and X308s have a neat trick. Walk up to a locked one. Now open the trunk, umm boot, with the key.
Watch the light and siren show from the alarm.

My wifes beetle (newer shape) there is no way of opening the boot with a KEY ! Instead you have a button, which you press. And the boot lid fails to open. So it takes two people, one to press the button and one to lift the lid. It curse word me off so much I decided the hinges must be shagged so I bought some new ones, changed them and guess what ? Still the same. So now, if you want to get in the boot alone, sit in car, press button and slam the door with the button pressed and the boot lid opens on air pressure.....how curse word is that This thread is hilarious I'm sat here chuckling away to myself, I think you need one of these ? Or take the boot catch out and replace the release spring..

They didn't just screw the Range Rover up the did the same with the TD5 Discovery, yet the Discovery 1 is the other way round, a royal pain in the when you own both Discovery 1 and 2. You can't open a Discovery 2 fuel cap with the ignition on, you can't have the boot cover in the car with a dog guard in place.

Every car I have ever owned.. they didn't galvanize it/seal it with epoxy primer/make it out of plastic and thus they all have rucks of holes in them!
