Anybody any advice regarding the above?
Looking to possibly invest in one as I don't have room of funds for a big compressor.
Not looking to spend megabucks as it will be used infrequently - would consider a secondhand item as long as it has not been hammered.
Anybody got any experience with these things?

I bought a cheapish new one off eBay around £60 - waste of money as very little power. This seems to be normal for the lower end of the market. IMO no point in having one unless it will undo wheel nuts so if you have to crack them with brace first then you might as well save money and fully undo with the brace ! Basically you get what you are paying for so unless prepared to pay decent amount, even for secondhand, don't bother with the cheaper versions.

I have been using a Bosch 18V which claims around 500Nm torque, not cheep though three to four hunderd quid with two Lithium battery packs. I am told the mains ones by Dewalt or Clarke are very good and you will never run out of charge, but I have not used one.

I've been using a Sealey CP2450 (rated at 410lb/ft) for a little over 2 years now. Doesn't get used all day everyday but does get quite a lot of use and its still going strong. Battery still holds a good charge and will happily crack wheel nuts, driveshaft nuts and crank bolts so well worth the money in my opinion.
They're about £170 on e-bay new

Save up for a compressor, it does much more than simply undo nuts.
I bought an impact gun from machine mart, and took it back the following weekend. Unless you get a really good one, they're weak and of limited use due to their size and battery life.
Compressor ftw!

I generally think Snap On hand tools to be grossly overpriced, but after a disappointing experience with a cheap cordless impact wrench I stumped up the dollar and bought a Snap On CTU4850 on the recommendation of a friend. Its been brilliant, and I would say one of the best tool investments I have made. I got it second hand, but nearly new, from Ebay. Sadly, I loaned it to some stinking, dreadlocked hippies and they left the box sitting out in the rain for about 3 weeks so the charger is now screwed.

I can happily say - I've never bothered with the type above, as they're openly TRYING to be directly competitive with the airgun type Instead, I bought one of these, about 4 years ago: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAX-PRO-12V-Automotive-Garage-Impact-Wrench-1-2-Driver-Carry-Case-4-Wheel-Nut-/290716981646?pt=UK_Home_Garden_PowerTools_SM&hash=item43b015198eWill remove almost anything - if you let it smack it few times. Granted it says 180N/m, but I just hold onto the trigger for about 30 seconds. Removed rusted/rotten exhaust pipes, all wheelnuts, engine mounts, crank bolts, etc, etc. And after 4 YEARS, it's only just decided to kill itself

Had Clarke and Milwalke not that impressed, but the Snap On was done the job but it was pricey, and that was 2nd hand, if I was buying new I would have gone for the Facom one.

I suppose not trying to make it "portable"and using the rather large car battery helps with that Doesn't go "rat-a-tat-a-tat-a-tat-a-tat-a-tat" like airguns either (lots of quick, but weak hits) But more like "whiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrr-CRACK....whiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrr-CRACK...."Just seems to be far more powerful, even though the numbers are technically lower?

I've got a Clarke 24v Not as strong as a breaker bar but takes the labour and time out of many jobs I've had a Sealey 19.2V 1/2 gun (the batteries eventually let it down), a Clarke 24v 1/2 gun and finally a 18v Snap On 1/2 gun (also have two 3/8 snap on guns)... The Clarke amazingly is still going strong, one battery gave way but I usually take both when I'm on a recovery. The snap on IMO has the greatest torque but is tremendous amounts to buy new.
