Well then. I've just purchased car number seven. It was a mild accident this. Got a bit excited on eBay because I wanted it, but I still bagged a bargain! What we have here is a Solihull built 1973 Rover P6. Which became tax exempt with the last budget. The previous owner bought it when he was only a couple of years older than I am, and used it as daily transport for years before the approaching MOT and apparent tin worm forced it off the road. He then spent the next five years welding the car up, and did the following work: - Sills, inner and outer, both sides - Floor pan outer edges replaced both sides - Offside D-post outer skin replaced - Nearside D-post outer skin repaired - Boot floor sides repaired both sides around suspension anchorages - Front inner wings repaired both sides - Front and rear flitches replaced both sides - Rear inner wings repaired both sides - All four jacking points replaced completely and rebuilt properly - Heater duct channels in the bulkhead repaired - Bulkhead repaired around spring seats and suspension mounts It was originally a 2000cc engine, but he dropped a fully rebuilt 2200tc engine there and changed the automatic to a manual. With it are many spares. Including a spare set of Sundym glass, a good spare gearbox and a leather interior, as well as its original cloth ones. Seeing as all that was done, and I just about had the money, I had to have it really. And with that, this very evening, I drove down and helped him on the trailer with it. I also took the opportunity to pick up some parts.  That pretty much covers things so far. Its all unloaded and at home, I need to clear a space for it to go properly and go back a few more times because there's loads more spares to collect. All in all though, very happy. Dolomite is to be finished first because its priority, but after that, this one is go! Let me know what you think. |

Superb...!
I have had a couple of P6's (one 4 cylinder one and a V8) and they are brilliant cars.
The 'base-unit' construction can hide a whole world of sins but it seems like your one has had plenty of work done to it to make it solid again. I look forward to keeping my eye on the progress of this little gem!

 BRILLIANT!! Looking forward to this  Although somewhere the other day you said it didnt need much to get it on the road.... It looks very much in bits to me ;D Well for me, what constitutes not needing much to get it on the road is anything that doesnt need hefty amounts of welding  . Assembly is easy, paint shouldnt be too hard, got all the gear! Whats your plans for her then straight resto or full on custom! I toyed with the idea of a wide arched racer but thats more work than i can be bothered with right now, To start with, just a straight resto. Any mods will be simple ones. Looks like you've got yourself a good base for a project. There are plenty of people who talk about wide arching these, and very few actually do it, plenty of reasons for it though, and anything over a 6inch wide wheel is probably going to give you serious clearance headaches on the rear arches unless you start on some surgery. They do however look epicly cool lowered, custom made lowering springs aren't horrifically expensive, and working on the front suspension isn't as bad as many will have you believe |

The V8 valance will look great on this so just go for it, I think it makes the front end look a tad 'meaner' on these which is always a good thing! With regards to badging it up, I'd leave it well alone. Just put a 'ROVER' badge on it and leave the rest up to peoples over-active imaginations! As for the colour I'd re-do it in Almond (I'm biased as I used to have a 2000TC in the verty same colour) but these old buses look great in a whole variety of colours... |

Brilliantly brellow. I'd love to see this bolted together and left as is, I think it looks superb in a down-at-heel old money sort of a way.

I like quad lamps, I really do, but for some reason that last shot is making me wonder what a set of halogen blocks would look like, perhaps from something like a Volvo 240 or 740? Seems to sit really high at the front too, especially for a car with an engine in.

Not sure about block lights, i do like the 'quad lamps' as you say though. It does sit really high, they were always pretty high, dunno if they were that high, it might be improved when its got hubcaps on though.
I'm probably not going to lower it though, because A) i cant be bothered, and B) the suspension is lethal at the best of times.

If it has you just need to roll it back and forth to let the front wheels splay back out, the wheels should sit upright give or take Getting the door frames in and out is an art in itself, there's plenty of adjustment on most of the panels to get all the panel gaps near equal and the doorframes have plenty of adjustment as you've probably now sussed out  |

The tracking is miles out, its got a bit of toe in but i don't know if that would make a difference? Yeah the doors nearly killed me. The rears are much much easier (as far as i can see anyway).... |

The toe in would probably do it, if it rolls backwards does it go back down again? While working on mine I found it amusing that after jacking the front up, turning the steering wheel either way would let it slowly drop back down to normal ride height!

Ive not really noticed! i think if i adjust the tracking and jump up and down on the front after rolling it back and forth a bit, things should right themselves! |

I think if I adjust the tracking and jump up and down on the front after rolling it back and forth a bit, things should right themselves! Jumping up and down will just flex the sidewalls, rolling it or turning the steering wheel are most effective at returning them to normal ride height I do however wonder why the tracking is out, do you know of any work that has been done that would require the track rod to be adjusted apart from simply removing it? |
