My mate did this as a job for a while, he was constantly redoing jobs as it kept peeling off. You need to use a proper panel wipe and take all tar etc off before applying the dip. It's been around for 15+ years but as with many fads it has come forward again. Personally I think it's a waste of good money unless your prepared to spend the time preparing the job.
David.

Yes it's still pretty obvious that u have to prep the car correctly and I think if done right it will work well from what I've read! Not heard of peeling issues before! Probably stay on better than most of my paint anyway lol

this lot did the mil-spec prelude in Fast Car mag: www.matt-pack.co.uk/I think you need plenty coats if you are doing a light colour and your current paint is patchy. Not ried it myself but considering it once I get the rust sorted out!

Awesome! What are you dipping? Well I'm going to start off with an old bootlid that's sitting in my garden. If that goes well then the whole car's getting the treatment

Here's some pics of the spare bootlid. trying to get the hang of the sprayer.. Not very good and really textured after three coats (there was worse but I didn't take pics) After six coats I kinda got the hang of it and it dried quite smooth with a tiny bit of texture (which is what it does). I left it and tried the peeling thing today after work.. It works! and is do-able. I need to find somewhere to spray it inside though because it picks up dust/hair/pollen/pubes really easily if doing it outside.

Copey. £66 plus vat and delivery for five litres. A medium size car takes fifteen litres. [quote author=" mdh" source="/post/1816272/thread" timestamp="1374938293 Looks good. Was that plain white dip? Are you gonna go for it on the whole car? [/quote] It's not actually plasti dip, it's from a UK firm but seems to work well. Just plain matt white. Yeah I want to do the whole car but need to find somewhere inside to spray it

Been reading about this stuff the bit that worries me if someone was to open the door on a dipped panel would it leave a tear in it etc or if ya drove past a tree would it peel that strip off lol

I think it is carwash proof once ist cured properly so should stand up to most normal abuse, but for off roading surely a roller and rustoleum is the way forward
