I changed my leaking water pump today and fitted a new cam belt and tensioner. Got some rad flush in at the mo, recon theres gonna be a lot of poop coming out of there!
I had a bit of a shock when I found I've been running without a thermostat. Looks to have been out for a while as the bolts in the upper housing were rusted solid. Picked one up from GSF for £6 (same as a VW Bora) and fitted it, had a drive and got up to temp much quicker. The previous owner mentioned he had to get the fan working so I assume before that the 'stat had been taken out in a misguided attempt to keep cool.

I've put a few miles in since fitting the new 'stat and water pump and all is well. Gets up to temp and sits at half way, fan kicks in at 3/4 if sitting so happy days.
My next job is to change the fuel accumulators (which look a bit damp around the bottom screws) and all the fuel flexi hoses. I've ordered 2 new Bosch 20c accumulators from the good ol' US for £83 delivered which was a bargain. I'm going to get the flexis made up by a local company who have quoted £90 for the lot. That should cure the hot start issues for some lovely trouble free motoring....

Got curse word around with the order for the accumulators so had to reorder from another company. Went with one larger accumulator as it worked out cheaper and was recommended as an upgrade. In the appocalypse style gales that battered the UK in the week my garden fence was blown down so had to give up my Saturday to dig holes putting up a new one. As I'm a Carpenter by trade I managed to bosh it out with time to spare for a bit of spannering before dark. I'm working my way through all rubber items on the car as they all look '77 vintage. Next job injector seals, cheaper from Mr Injector than dealership at £10 delivered. Popped out my injectors using molegrips to grab the injectors, block of wood as a fulcrum and a big screwdriver through the grips as a lever. Snapped off the rock solid seals and gave the injectors a clean with carb cleaner. Lubricated my new seals with a drop of brake fluid, slid on the injectors and tapped them home with a block of wood and hammer. 15 minutes and £10, job done.
Pick up my new fuel flexi's on Monday after work, £80 for pump to accumulator, accumulator to hard line, return hose and hard line to filter from a local company. Not looking forward to fitting them at the connectors look properly rusted and a bit of a squeeze to get to. But if it cures my hot start it will be worth it...........

Managed to sly a few hours on the 924 this afternoon and there was no rain I got the back end up and killed 2 birds with one stone. Number one job was to fit a nice new set of boge gas shocks which I picked up for the princely sum of £10. Job number two was to finally get my freshly painted rear anti roll bar fitted. Rose joint drop links, daihatsu four track poly bushes (perfect fit £5) and a set of brackets knocked up andsupplied with the bar by a fellow member of the owners club. All fitted had a quick run around and could really feel the difference, much more planted and stiffer. Next jobs are fit 20mm spacers to the rear wheels and tidy up the engine bay wiring. I need to get rid of all the blue crimped terminals and replace with solder ons and tidy up the loom with some non adhesive loom tape. I remade the loom going to the starter and alternator last weekend and have some heatproof mat to fit around that area too. No rest for the wicked

Its been a while but I've not been lazy. My time has been spent wisely trawling Ebay for the next load of bits. The tarrantula alloys I had were in good nick with newish tyres but they were boring. I've been looking for ages for some wheels in the right PCD and offset that would suit. I wanted something that like revolutions or even slot mags but they're only "13. The holy grail was a set of original 924 steels which I would have got banded but they are unicorn poop. Then I saw these. Citroen steels, 20mm spacer at the rear and 5mm up front. Not to everyones taste but I love em. Looks straight out of the Porsche museum. Next up was a subtle little mod. A pair of Scirocco chrome door handle inserts + a dremmel = Really pleased with how its looking now. I'm mid way through fitting a dash cap to cover my horrendously cracked dash. Its all painted and looks OK but needs a bit of work to fit properly. More soon..............................

Hello all, Quite an eventful time recently including a change of career has meant that I've not been very focused on cars and have not had the spare money. I thought I'd take the time to post and let you know that my '77 is still very much a part of the family and currently stands as this - This week I have removed the 944 style valance that was fitted by the PO. Fitted a new D/S wing that I painted some time ago along with the new valance that took ages of bending and hammering to get straight. I have welded in a new front lower section of P/S wing to replace the crusty original. I have stone chipped and painted all the sills and injected cavity wax into every orriface (of the car). I have also swapped the twin 20cc fuel accumulators for a brand new 40cc and all new hoses ( purchased ages ago) which has cured the hot start problem. Still to do is paint the new bonnet I have and source a new badge panel. I plan to head to the Retro Warwick show in a weeks time if anyone is attending?

Great to see it still going strong! And just reread the whole thread!....couple of questions if I may?....you said early on that you were having a new clutch fitted? Dare I ask how much? Mine's started slipping and would like a ball park figure on replacement also, your door handles...were they originally chrome/polished alloy? Or aftermarket replacements? Cheers

Clutch was something like £450 fitted, horrendously expensive. Early handles are chrome poor quality wobbly children's play pony poop like most other early parts ie door mirrors.

Many thanks....to be honest I thought the clutch replacement would be a lot more?.....quoted 8-9 hours labour plus parts? Thought I was looking at nearly double that!

£50 p/h labour round here and sourced the clutch myself. £450 is the most I've ever handed to a garage by far, but it was a job I didn't fancy on my drive!
