Bumped this, as it seems most relevant to me atm - Anyone know anything more about these?
Someone in the family has found a Y-plate one and he says its pretty solid, but has a few bits missing and has been standing a long time. He's got his own workshops and someone wants rid.
But he has no interest in German cars, he's into his classic british stuff. He thought of me straight away, can't think why..
Sounds like my cup of tea since i've sacked the Golf and Polo off, and i have him to help me tidy it up - i'm particularly swayed by the idea of five bike carbs and the sound it'd make (i've ran bike carbs on various 4-pot engines for ten years now). They're not heavy cars by modern standards and though i think they look a bit top-heavy, i think they would look great lowered.
I haven't seen the car, it's up north. Some of the parts missing include pretty much all the the ignition and cooling systems (cant find a dizzy for the life of me on line but i don't know where to look), the weather hasn't been kind to the exterior trim and what there is of the interior has seen better days.
But most of the trim can be binned or painted, some original-spec parts can be replaced with alien stuff, and if my only problem is the ignition then i'll be doing well.
So what do you know? What do i do? What would you do? Where do i go for parts, inspiration, information particularly on tuning the straight-five..?
Pics, knowledge etc all welcome.
