Hi All
I posted my Mk3 a few weeks ago when i joined and spent the last few weeks since admiring all the awesome projects in these pages since, some real epic builds and stories, so much so i wished i'd done more of a wright up on my Mk3, well i've got that one started and thanks to you guys and discovering this epic forum and group it has refueled my creative juices and passion for all things retro, now i've also moved in the last week and now have both mine at home so i felt i was time to introduce my 2nd retro bud, 5.
Having just moved and now having both cars in 1 spot for the 1st time in 2 years i now plan to resurrect 5, my MK5 Wagon, about 3 years ago he decided to relieve himself of his fuel over the garage floor, now at the time i was'nt to panicked as i had the MK3 for daily so i thought sod it i'll get a tank and replaced soon, well 3 years later here we are lol,
Now 5 was brought from a local garage my family used for our repairs and bits call brands, my mum had just been dianosed with MS which at the time ment she would need a wheel chair and my nans 3 wheeled robin rialto was'nt the best of machines for this duty so it was decided a bigger car was needed, we were passing brands when i spotted the old fella outside for sale, now 5 is a spit of one my grandad had in colour, spec and year, in fact i was to be my grandads last new car, it turns out that the previous owner who had had him from new decided that after 20 years time was up for him and got rid of him for a new focus (idiot lol) anyway a deal was struck and he was now a family member.
My nan used him daily and i kept him running, then i took him over and ran him daily, we've had some right times together, one that always springs to mind is about 6 months after i passed my test i decided to vist my old man in halifax, now i live in suffolk so we're talking about a 500 mile round trip for someone who has'nt got much experience and never left the county in his own motor before, well the trip there went well, got a little cough about 3/4's of the way there and thought no more of it, well had a corking weekend and well chuffed with myself for the trip, well the return trip was where the fun was, the condenser was braking down and that cough was now the old fella trying to cut out, in fact he did at the top of the steepest hill in brighouse with my old man in his mustang at the bottom, S*ting myself in free fall i managed to bump start him with the momentum and stop in time, great start to the return trip lol this carried on for 250 miles on the M62, A1M and A14, every 2-3 miles bang as he cut and then bumped himself as i was doing 55is as this was the most we can do, i learned more about driving in that 1 trip than any of my lessons lol, well we made it, the old boy got me home safe, i fear if i had a new motor i would have been squashed on the M62 but i had 5 and together we made.
Now i'm very attached to the old, i sunk a lot of money into him about 7 years to a restorer to do welding on him, money well spent, not the robbing time wasting *******.!!!!!!!!!! as you can tell it didn't quite work out but after agro, hassle it got done(ish) and i brought him home and hit the road again in blue and black until a local company sprayed him for me and he was one colour again and then that kind of brings us to were we are now, the old war horse who has helped my nan & mum, taught me valued driving experience and honed my mechanical skills, helped me move house, move my wife in with me and made countless men at the local tips smile when i rolled in, is now home and waiting for me to once again bring him back, which i will, this will not be a regular thread or the most in depth, i won't be building a show car or a race car just bring my old friend back, here are some pics to get started, sorry if i've waffled on but you know how it is when you get going lol
Just back from "welding"
Painted
And just before the tank went
Cheers for reading, hopefully the next pics will be more action shots )
