I have a load of pictures mainly from Trent Raceway in Staffordshire from the mid to late 1980s, I know how some feel about Bangers and Stockers so do I show them or do I put them back in the loft where they came from? Some are quite ropey as I was only in my early teens (cough) at the time and took them on an ancient Praktica MTL3.

Yes please, my Dad used to do stocks/bangers in the late 60's/early 70's and I have fond memories of going to some of the short ovals as a little kid

Ok then here we go. I first started going to Trent Raceway in Needwood near Burton on Trent in 1985 when my dad drove the Red Cross Ambulance as emergency cover, and boy was he busy! He covered until around 1988 when it started to get a bit much for him but by then I was of driving age so I continued going with my mates to the meetings until about 1989, the meetings were held on a dirt oval every other Sunday throughout the summer and consisted of Bangers, Hot Rods RWD stocks FWD stocks, an under 16s race and a ladies race. The format varied from time to time and sometimes included F2 Stocks and Van racing but the biggest change came in for the early '88 season and is what caused my dad to throw the towel in. Bomber racing was introduced as the Banger line up was getting less and less. This consisted of normal road cars with lights and screens removed, front windows wound down and doors roped together, no roll cage required in fact discouraged as it gave an unfair advantage! I know a couple of my college mates at the time who drove there cars to the track before racing them and then left them at the breakers next to the circuit after the meeting. I know Trent Raceway is still going but I haven't been for around 20 years so if anyone has any more up to date pics or info please feel free to post them. Ah the good old '80s Anyway enough waffle here's some pics- Task Force team Anglia Hot Rod from 1988 Task Force team Rover Banger from 1988 (CROWN coupe in back ground) Paddock shot from 1985

Aah. I see what you did there. Start of with all the nondescript stuff, lull me into a sense of false security and then get stuck in with all the good ol' stuff. Is it too late to change my vote to "No, burn them at once !" ? Afraid not mate, there out there now!

Great pics I grew up next to Aldershot raceway and got hooked on cars helping to prepare them for banger and hot rod duty when I was about 6. My best mate at the times dad was a member of 'The Rough Squad' Countless amounts of Mk1 Cortinas, escorts etc went through the mill as at the time they were simply old knackered scrappers.

Nobby Roberts is still going today, he was out at Birmingham last Saturday. He was a bit of a legend at Trent Raceway back in the day, always had a well prepared Rod but also up for the Bomber racing too.

Is Aldershot where the Dreamers race from "Banger Boys"?

A old saab 99 would be a useless banger as the clutch is right behind the rad - Hope the team welded something in place ....
