Well, I couldn't sleep (I work nights) so I went outside to make use of the light. Aren't speedo's meant to be connected From this: To this: I also fit the steering rack polybushes, one side had loads of space and was pretty easy, the other I had to remove starter motor and undo engine mount to get enough room to lift the metal clamp off. In all took about an hour, whilst I was tinkering a man arrived at my door nice nice, all the bags even have labels to say what they are/where they should go. Fit my new rocker cover too but didn't want to pick up the camera after I had finished because of greasy fingers, so I'll leave that for another day when I start fitting some bushes.

Bush-tastic (like a 1970's jazz mag')...!!!!!!!!!!
I am thinking about keeping my Toledo off the road from the end of this week as things are getting a bit gritty and salty on the roads and there is rust spots that will only get infinitely worse!
I shall be keeping an eye on your bush adventures very closely indeed so please do keep us all updated with superb pictures and handy 'how to' thoughts also...!!!

Just seen the prices of new ARB's they're cheap!!!!! the links on the other hand lol! Anyone know of any aftermarket ones or have any experiences with any so I can compare? My car being a lowly 1300 doesn't have any and its something I will deffo be fitting to make it handle that little bit better!

Full rear ARB setup ordered. Currently looking for cheaper links for front as they are £80+ for a set from Rimmers and Jigsaw... unbelievable just for a bit of pipe welded to some thread. Stiffening just the rear should make for some interestingly oversteery handling.

I bought a Toledo 2 door (in a lovely Brown) for my wife quite a few years ago now. It had only 1 previous lady owner and had done just 14,000 miles - still on crossplies. I fitted a complete set of Marina/ital wheels and tyres and this considerably improved the handling as they had a bit more width and offset. Despite the mileage, the big ends had the usual Triumph rumble. It was a really reliable car to us but I sold it, then bought it back a year later for next to nothing as it had failed it's MOT. A bit of welding and we used it for a further 2 years then sold it on.

Nice little photoshop, colour on the front is a little wild! Nice to see a different idea though, rather alfa-esque, as oppose to the BTCC scheme of the Sprints, which I've seen a few variations of. Any further details on the plans?

Do the front in white, and we'll have the exact same colour scheme for RRG2014!

Superb!

Well specs are hopefully as time/money allows pretty simple as the engine won't make much bhp even if I supercharged it, but that's not the goal, it's to make a fun, lairey car no-one else has! Fully poly bushed except engine mounts. Twin 40's with port matched inlets. Port and polished head with titanium valve spings. (stage 1) with new gaskets. Lightened flywheel and new clutch. Duplex timing chain and adjustable vernier pulley. I've yet to look into camshaft profiles yet but something a little more lively than 1300 spitfire one. Crank balanced with new shells, but this won't be until I clear my garage as I have no room to take a another block apart. I've not made my mind up on an oil cooler yet as I use the car everyday and the engine will take a little too long get warm, it is only a small 4 banger after all. 1500 4-2-1 exhaust manifold with full stainless system. This will be sooner rather than later as my current one is starting to look manky as the car was garaged for years and now its seeing all kinds of weather. Fully adjustable AVO coilovers front and rear with ARBs (one of which arrived today) Interior is fine as is for the moment apart from perhaps some temp/pressure gauges. Source new panels and save for a paintjob - last on the list due to cost! Ideally I want to keep it usable and enjoyable throughout the project bar a few days here or there, I don't want to jump in and strip it down unless I change the engine and do something drastic. If I ever do do that, it'll be receiving a 4AGE setup no question. I do really like the look of alfa racers from the same time period they have so much class. Here is a car which has inspired me for the scheme of mine. oo and look at this for mileage for the last few years. The documentation I got with the car suggest its been doing that for 15 years. I did get it from a 74 year old so it was a pride and joy. But I think he was duped on some of the bodywork he had done as its terrible.

It's funny that you're inspired by oldschool Alfa racers for your Toledo, 'cause I'm putting a Dolomite Sprint front spoiler on the Giulia

Like the plans, sounds like little pocket rocket.
Love the dark blue colour, although I might go for a design with white accents (Ecurie Ecosse) and silver or black minilites. Even better, banded steelies!
I think there are some thermostat controlled oil cooler out there, worth a look. Cam wise I wouldn't go to mad, since you want some pulling power when fully loaded, something like a Piper 255 or Kent TH12 would do the job.

Small update as I've been all over the place for christmas including working to get more pennies and formulating a plan of attack. OE waterpump and thermostat etc are en-route to me, may as well replace them since I don't know how old they are and I'll be doing a lot of driving in the ol' girl this year! Rear anti rollbar has made a noticeable difference on roundabouts however now it feels like if I were to push hard I could get a front wheel off the ground. Hopefully I'll have coilovers in the next two weeks, will also have one tooth less!!! I finally decided to put my health before my cars... nothing de-motivates you like a tooth cracking in half.

So... I'm a little lost for words at what happened this last weekend. In a shocking turn of events, the planets had aligned ending up with this... sitting in my garage on my jetta... I was just photographing things to sell so I can clear my garage for work on the tolly when I acquired this... it even has matching numbers and my initials on the numberplate. It seems I'm a sucker for all things retro. Hopefully the Jetta will be gone soon so I can get some work benches and make some tool/parts racks. If someone were to offer the right money for it I'll let it go (the vespa) but I'm almost tempted to actually build it up as it has everything bar wheels and a rear brake setup. The money would go towards the tolly ofc. Life with the Tolly has been spot on recently, driving beautifully and have put a healthy 1500 miles on her.

A nice sized bench vice is on its way so bushes plan is a go, had a waterpipe split yesterday whilst I was at work, luckily it was just a small split next to a hose clip, so took off the pipe, cut the split and deteriorated end off and refit the pipe.

So, whilst waiting for some nicer weather or the v5 for my Jetta so I can clear the garage (lost it, doh!) I took a look at these Dellorto DHLA40's without a suffix letter I bought before christmas, I think they are the pre-emission revision carbs. As you can see they are indeed in need of rebuilding.
So I began disassembly to see the state of the innards as the outside was pretty rank and I needed to know what the jets are, to find even the inside had limescale I'm almost surprised at quite how many parts there are to these things
Venturi's
Chokes
95% dissassembled with a quick scrub of some oven cleaner and harsh plastic brush, a fair amount cleaner but not done.
Nothing some brasso can't fix.
throttle return spring, glad I have a replacement, this would bug me!
Butterfly shaft, rusty and slightly bent so a new one will be ordered wth new bearings as they're kaput too.
This bearing came right out with the shaft nice and easy. Here are the parts from the first carb I have had some trouble with, I need some reverse thread drill bits for the two jets
Turned the screw driver on both and they instantly rounded or had half the flat head groove snap off
The other bearing... I'm not entirely sure how to get this out just yet as I can't hit it through or back from the other side as the gap it sits in is U shaped (has a back wall with hole big enough for the shaft) I may try drilling the black area whilst catching the outer ring with a view to it cave inwards on itself using a small screwdriver and a hammer. They came off a Tuned Triumph 1300 engine when I bought them but I assume a lotus when new, as to how tuned and what mods I don't know The current jet set up for that engine is: Choke - 27mm Venturi - 1 Main Emulsion Tube - 7772.5 with air corrector 160 and Main jet 105 Idle - 7850.1 with idle jet 48 (pretty middle of the road fuel wise) Starter Emulsion tube - 7482.1 with starter jet 70 (again, middle of the road fuel wise) pump jet - 33 I'll let you into a secret, I know not whether these numbers are right, but I imagine a few of them aren't. So any/all feedback with regards to how to jet or experiences with certain sizes would be fantastic. I am however once these carbs are rebuilt with lots of fresh parts willing to see if they will start the standard engine and re-jet from there. However without a wideband sensor system I won't really be able to tune them too much from home. Nice refreshing new parts bag which contains a genuine twin carb rebuild kit with o rings, springs and gaskets. Would seem this bag needs to get fatter before I move further ahead with them, new throttle shaft, bearings, fuel pipe banjo's, fuel pump jets as the ones I have seem to be missing some metal. Along with shiny bits like Ram pipes. I'll be setting upon the screws with apple cider vinegar to get rid of rust.
