Here are a few bits I'd previously cleaned up ready for some finishing off befor refitting.
I stripped the front struts off the hub carriers
the end result ready for some cleaning
Hubs and carriers in to the degreaser then the hot wash
All cleaned off
When i parted the hubs from the carriers part of the bearing decided it would stay behind so before i went any further i needed them to part company.
In order to remove this (for those who don't know) my prefered method is:
Clamp the hub in the vice
Use the angle grinder (preferably with a thin 1mm disc) and cut a slit in the remainder of the old bearing being carefull not to cut all the way through - even if you do you can clean it up with some sand paper afterwards.
Find a suitable hammer and chistle
And bash the fecker so it cracks
It then simply slides off leaving you with the hub indamaged (hopfully)
And the same for the other side
Now they were both free from bearing remenance
It was on with the cleaning - fine sand first for the delicate machined surfaces
as so
then i taped those areas up so the more corse media in the blaster wouldnt damage them
In to the blaster with the hub carriers and the hubs (old bearings left in place in the carriers so the machined surfaces don't get damaged there and i don't have to tape them up)
out them come looking bling
Gave the hubs a dust of acid etch primer on the back face
once that was dry i polished up the machined faces in the lath
All done and ready for some colour when i get round to choosing the exact right one.
I lightly greased the polished surfaces and bagged them for safe keeping
Carriers primed ready for paint too, i think they came out ok
So going back in time a bit while this lot was in the blaster i startet to strip the rear axle down, its crispy but not rotten
Drums off
one for reference
N/S stripped fully - the allen key bolts that hold the stub axle are alway a pita
both sides stripped ready for cleaning
And gave it the best cleaning i could given its size lol
Done and looking better already - unfortunately its too big to fit in any of our blasters so i will have to out source this one! Anyone recommend a blasting service? Soda perhaps?
Thanks for looking
James
