I'd forgotten just how awesome these machines were And just how talented the drivers. The opening comment in this video says it all really......... The sound of the Sport Quattro on full chat, makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!

I think this was Group B - much better than any Quattro or Lancia. Apart from at winning anything and all that...

Fwaaa! check out that crowd, health and safety has come along way hasnt it, what a shame. in my opinion risking your life would be worth it for some of those shots! I think this was Group B - much better than any Quattro or Lancia. Apart from at winning anything and all that... it was indeed group b, but i think at most events it hardly even managed to get off the ship!!! there was even a group B visa aparently! MR2 (not finished before the class was banned!): more here: www.mr2supercharger.com/GroupBRacing.htmlthere are some obscure cars out there, aparently this is group b! horizon! (check the wheels): last but not least, my favourite: although possibly not even campained, i didnt even realise it was group B until i started looking for the MR2 pics for this thread; the ferrari 288 GTO:

Sometimes being old is great!! I was lucky enough to be around when Group B was at its height and take it from me, they were every bit as spectacular as they look. It was no surprise when they banned them in 1986 after Santos ploughed into a load of spectators on the Rally Of Portugal and both Henri Toivonen and Atillio Bettega perished in accidents, those cars really were pushing the performance envelope. Spectator numbers were, as you can see, way higher than they are now, and crowd control was almost non-existent. Incredible while it lasted though.... My favourite....Lancia Delta S4

Great video! I know it wasn't a real one but my brief experience of this car a couple of weeks ago will stay with me a long while! With 20 odd years of car/tyre development how fast are todays World Rally cars in comparison? Have regulations been keeping speeds in check or are they now as quick as those Group B legends?

TBH probably no Its not like F1,where you can cheat a few tenths by tweaking the aerodynamics. These things never were aerodynamic in the first place Just pure horse power and plums!

Apparently cornering and chassis ability has improved greatly but the acceleraton and flat out speed has not been matched.
